Good morning and happy Monday!
Work is picking up, but I want to continue to commit to popping in here each weekday morning. It feels like it’s my sacred time of day and I think I’m better about committing to it when I do it EVERY (week)day, rather than sporadically.
I could probably take a few lessons around my commitment to blogging and apply it to other things in my life (e.g. food prep and exercise). But that’s an obstacle to solve for another day.
For now, I’m gonna pat myself on the back for showing up here every morning. Future me is going to love having these blog posts to look back on to remember Ishaan’s early years.
Let’s talk about this weekend.
Friday
On Friday, Ishaan and I went to a carnival hosted by the local Montessori school. It was open to the public so we just showed up and ran around like we owned the place. (And by “we,” I mean Ishaan. Because he thinks he owns ALL the places).
I was telling Ankur the other day that it’s really interesting to have a kid. Because, without even realizing it, you build a community of people that you see over and over again. The same kids and parents show up to the playgrounds and the kiddie concerts and the free events.
I’m sure this is true for other people – not just parents – who have any specific interests. Like maybe all the mountain climbers run into each other over and over on the trails. But, I’ve never had a hobby or anything like that that would have me running into the same people.
Anyway, it’s nice. Because I was definitely really worried about making friends when we got here. I was worried that having Ishaan would make it a little harder to get out there and meet other women. But, I guess, Ishaan has made it a lot easier on me. So thanks, little guy.
Ankur got off work on the earlier end on Friday, so he met us at the carnival and walked home with us.
Our Friday evening plans were: a HelloFresh meal for dinner and Portaling with the family. And, after we put Ishu to bed, I started reading this book (and finished it yesterday, pretty good and worth the read!). And fell asleep on top of my Kindle, drooling all over Ishu’s Nugget.
Saturday
On Saturday, we made breakfast tacos and I went to the chiropractor in the morning.
I also met a new friend that my old roomie Beth connected me to. Danielle and I had lunch at The Smith in River North while Ankur and Ishu took a long, long nap at home.
It was so nice to meet another Bruin and we made plans to go to the WineFest in October!
Sunday
On Sunday morning, we went out to brunch at Eggy’s. I feel like, now that I’m working from home, I can’t really take Ishu to to the Lakeshore East area during the week (since it’s a little further than some other parks). So wanted to take advantage of the weekend and head in that direction.
We had brunch and then went to the park right outside. I think this park is the most fun for Ishu because he can pretty much do most things AND there are fountains. So he gets to play and also get soaked. Win win win.
He was pretty exhausted when we got home. So, before I could even give him a bath, he passed out in my arms on the couch.
He ended up sleeping for only an hour and a half and wasn’t interested in sleeping anymore. So, we got ready and went to the Lincoln Park GreekFest.
We knew they were going to have live music and that’s Ishu’s favorite thing ever.
And, true to form, Ishu enjoyed dancing and playing with babies and Nanis. Handing babies old, crushed leaves. Stealing Nanis’ walkers and canes. Dancing in the sun.
We got some food to go. (It wasn’t intended to be “to go,” but when you’ve got a baby on-the-go, most things also have to be on-the-go too).
He tired himself out and, by the time we got home, we had time for a quick bath and then it was time for bed.
Now we’re here, waiting for Auntie Bella to come and spend a couple hours with Ishu this morning while I can get some work done!
Hope you have a great week!

Aw, sounds like a fun weekend. Yay for meeting up with a new friend and making October friends. And that’s great that having Ishu means you get to see a lot of the same people and hopefully you’ll make some long term friends that way. I love how much Chicago has to do!
