Good morning from California (again!).
I’m pretty excited to get to go outside and be under the sunshine all week long.
We landed on Saturday after quite the day of travel. We missed the 45-minute cut-off to check in our bags so ended up missing our flight. Fortunately, when you’re flying out of Chicago, there are lots of flights back to California so we were able to snag three seats (and all together at that!) on the next flight out.
I was so grateful that I had Ankur with me on this flight. He’s much calmer than I am when Ishu wants to touch all the things and open and close all the lap tables. (Although, I’ll pat myself on the back for handling our last flight like a champ)!
This was Ishu’s fourth flight and he’s becoming such a great little traveler. On our last flight, when we hit a patch of turbulence, I looked at Ishu and said, “Oh, it’s bumpy!”
And now he associates the word “bumpy” with “airplane.”
So when we got on this flight, he kept saying “bumpy airplane, bumpy airplane!” Meanwhile, this mama was hoping for NO BUMPS THANK YOU.
Luckily, it was a relatively smooth flight. And, similar to the last couple of flights with him, I’m much less anxious when I’ve got Ishu on my lap. He’s the best distraction.
We landed in SFO, grabbed our suitcases from baggage claim, and were picked up by Ishu’s Dadi and Babaji. Everyone was so smiley and happy to be reunited. And we were equally happy to shove our Chicago layers into our suitcase. BYE BYE COLD WEATHER!
We reached home and Ishu ran around, playing with Rosie and all the new toys that his Dadi and Babaji got for him. Mom had made us some yummy, yummy food. So yum that even Ishu took a break from all his toys to down an entire bowl of kitchari.
Between his Dadi’s Montessori activities and his Babaji’s read alouds and his Badi Dadi’s walker, this kid is getting so much entertainment this week.
Ankur and I went out last night (Parents’ Night Out!) and Ishu partied so hard with his grandparents and was out by 7:30pm.
I’m feeling so very grateful to get to be with family this week. With Ankur being in his second year of residency, we didn’t expect him to get this whole week off. But, somehow, it worked out.
And it feels like just the vacation we needed.
