Hi hello!
Happy happy Monday.
It felt like fall this past weekend and we got to spend a bulk of it outside which is always nice. Tomorrow is our monthly book club (we’re reading this book) and I’m 90% through it and want to finish it up while Riyu naps so I’ll make this weekend recap as quick as I can!
On Friday, Riyu had his one-year well check. He’s so different than Ishu at these appointments and maybe that’s pandemic related. But, I remember reaching a point (maybe around 2yo with Ishu) where I was actually surprised that he wasn’t crying during the weigh-in or height check. He just never wanted to leave our arms. Whereas this baby is like, “sure, whateva, do what you gotta do!”
He’s growing great. Our sweet little one year old.
After his appointment, we picked Ishu up from school. And big brother immediately showered baby with lots of love and kisses because he knew he had just had his appointment.
Friday night movie night was The Incredibles. I finished this book and this book this weekend. Both real great. I want to start writing actual reviews so I can remember what I read and how it made me feel (and so people will actually take my recommendations seriously). I subscribe to a friend’s monthly newsletter and she always shares the books she’s read that month, along with a rating and a short blurb of what she thought of it. I want to do something similar. Mostly for myself. Because, one time recently, I downloaded a book that I thought sounded good and then I realized – after a few pages in – that I had already read it. Ha.
On Saturday, the kids and I went out to pick up bagels for breakfast. Ishu felt that it was important to bring along his creature pack with his night vision goggles and Creature Pod. (This kid is Wild Kratts obsessed if you can’t tell).
We had bagels and eggs for breakfast and then got ready to head out to the Navy Pier. This weekend, they had some family fun activities set up, including a bunch of bounce houses.
If you follow ETB on Facebook, we DID in fact meet up with that family (WE DID IT!!!!) and the kids (and the grown-ups) had a ton of fun together.
Later, we went to the park and the kids passed out real quick. So, Ankur and I got a movie night in. We’re making our way through the X-men movies. So we just finished watching Wolverine and Logan.
On Sunday, we went to Do-Rite for a quick breakfast.
I’ve seen this place many times, but never thought to stop here. But when Grace was in town last weekend, she convinced me that these were better than Stan’s (apparently she had them at her wedding!) and I’m not a big fan of Stan’s as it is.
So now we have a new donut shop. Ishu usually licks off the top with all the sprinkles and leaves the donut part. But, I knew we had a winner when he ate almost the whole thing.
After, we all got ready to head out to the annual RIC-NIC. This year, it was at Lake Shore Park again. Crazy to think that last year when we went, the baby was only a couple weeks old.
After we left, I wasn’t quite ready to wrap things up and go back home. I was feeling oh-so tired, but I also knew that I would kick myself later for not taking advantage of the beautiful weather.
Fortunately for us, the baby made our decision for us. When he immediately fell asleep once he was in the stroller. So we decided to walk to the Navy Pier again for some more bounce house fun.
We stopped for ‘ice cream in a cap’ on the way home. (Who knows how many more days this place will be open before it’s closed for the fall?!).
And that’s it!
A weekend spent eating, bouncing, playing, bundling, activating, snuggling, and reading.
Pretty great stuff.
Have a good week!
