Good morning from a mama who is enjoying her cup of coffee in solitude while the two boys of the house are eating cereal in the other room.
At first, I thought, “Hm. Should I sit down and enjoy this family time together? All three of us together?”
And then immediately followed up with, “ABORT! GET OUTTA HERE WHILE YOU CAN.”
Ha.
Ishu’s toddler personality has been out in full force this weekend and, well, I’m gonna take this break to type up (as much of) this blog post as I can get to right now.
So, let’s recap our toddler-run weekend, shall we?
Friday
On Friday, we met up with Max and Jenn at the Wiggleworms concert. And then we followed up with a quick one-hour hangout at the museum.
I love watching these two boys together. Even though Ishu is a few months older than Max (and can sometimes be more impulsive and excitable and follow his own little agenda), he always comes back to find Max or ask where he is. They really love each other so much.
Jenn caught this cute photo of them holding hands while in stroller, walking home from the museum and it makes my heart melt.
Then, when we got home, Bella stayed with Ishu while Ankur and I went to go see the new Thor movie. It felt like such a treat! We haven’t been to the theaters together since before the pandemic and we so rarely get an opportunity to escape just the two of us. It was really nice and something we want to do more often.
After the movie, Ankur went back home to be with Ishu and I went to go meet up with a mama for a drink at the new Foxtrot in the Tribune Tower.
I think BECAUSE I was out and about doing so many fun things, there was a part of me aching to read my book in silence. So my crazy-pants self stayed up ’til 3:30am reading this book.
Saturday
On Saturday, we had a lazy day at home. During Ishu’s nap, we watched the Dr. Strange movie. And I started and finished this book (a quick read and so so good, please go read it).
Sunday
On Sunday, we ordered Stax for breakfast and had a nice family breakfast before Ishu and I went off to the museum.
I am laughing as I type this because we went to the museum and spent (almost) the entire time there running back and forth between the child-sized sink in the bathroom and the child-sized water fountain right outside the bathroom.
This kid loves being able to do what the grown-ups do and loves having access to things at just his size. It’s so exciting for him that it’s all he wants to do. Clearly.
We were real excited to start Ms. Marvel during Ishu’s nap time, but the little butt only slept for 30 minutes. This parenting life keeps you on your toes, man.
And then, we needed to release some of this toddler energy before bed so we did an evening trip to the playground.
And now, we’ve got a full week ahead of us. It’s still summer over here, but some people think August 1st is officially the start of fall. We’ve still got summer events going on over here in Chicago and I don’t start work ’til the end of the month. AND it’s still hot and humid as heck outside, so Imma say it’s still summer!
Are you Team “August 1st is Fall?” Or are you Team “SUMMER IS ‘TIL THE LEAVES TURN ORANGE?”

On the baby fountain….
All kids mouths will be touching the drinking water fixtures. In today’s Covid times please be extra careful. 🙏💖
