Good morning from a well rested mama!
Transitioning this kiddo to his toddler bed has led to some really sleepy nights for us and, after two consecutive nights of really broken sleep, I am happy to say that I got some solid stretches last night and I feel like a new human this morning.
There is more pep in my step.
I am willing to play the lava game with my child (where he jumps over the sidewalk lines because they are ‘lava’) when, on a tired day, I’m grumbly and less willing to participate.
I’m clearly much happier this morning, ha.
Anyway, aside from the broken sleep this weekend, we had some fun moments so going to recap them here!
Friday
Ankur had to work overnight on Friday. But Ishu and I had a lot of fun after school. His school spontaneously had a popsicle party at pick-up and the kids – all hyped up on sugar – were running around and around and around in circles. I mistakenly let my kid have TWO popsicles and, well, it’s just so dang clear when that sugar hits his bloodstream. He was wild.
Saturday
In the morning, we went to a family yoga event where, again, my child ran around in circles. He loves doing yoga moves (we use these Yoga Pretzels cards sometimes and he’s so good at it!).
But being contained to a mat for 45 minutes is hard business for a 3-year old. So, he did the best he could and bounced between the mat and the back of the room. Fortunately, these yoga instructors have their fair share of experience with toddlers so they can keep things running even with a bunch of kids running around the place.
Sunday
Our busiest day! We started the morning off with swim lessons. And then quickly got ready to head out to pick up a few things from Costco.
After nap time, we packed Ishu a lunch and he ate it on the way to his haircut. This place, KidSnips in Lincoln Park, looks like a toy store threw up on it. I mean, it’s a smart business model to sell a bunch of toys where kids are going to be spending a lot of time and parents are going to want to bribe their kids with anything just to get them to sit still. But, man oh man, I was very overstimulated.
We managed to get through the haircut and were suckered into buying a $7 space shuttle toy. But I’d say that was a win given all the things – at eye level – for the kids.
And then after the haircut, we went to listen to some music in the park at Bennett. We stayed for about half of it and then all felt pretty exhausted and ready to head back home.
And that’s it! This is also the weekend we celebrated 13 stars on Ishu’s wall! For every time he sleeps in his toddler bed, we let him add another glow-in-the-dark star to his wall. And for some reason that’s real motivating for him. And it’s working. I mean, it’s taking work. And he needs a lot of support still.
But last night was a win. He woke up only once around 4. And then came to our bed for snuggles around 6am. I’LL TAKE IT.
Anyway, it was a good weekend. Made even better by the fact that we got some solid sleep last night.
Hope you all had a great weekend as well!
