This weekend was so good, so good, so good.
On Friday morning, Auntie Bella landed in Chicago so I got to drive to the airport and scoop her up and have her all to myself for the entire drive back to downtown. We let Ishu have a half day, but I very much enjoyed getting to chat with her for a while without being interrupted.
Because, sure enough, when we went to go grab Ishu from school, it was a lot harder to get a word in.
Ha.
Bella and Tony moved to New York before the baby was born so it was also her first time meeting Riyu. And, within seconds of her being with the kiddos, I was reminded just how much Ishu absorbs her calm presence. SHE’S SO GOOD. I MISS HER SO MUCH.
Ishu and Auntie Bella had a sleepover in his room. So Ankur moved back into the master bedroom with me and the baby. At 7:30am on Saturday, we still hadn’t heard from Ishu and were surprised that he hadn’t burst into the room like he normally does. Ankur peeked his head out into the living room and, somehow, Ishu had managed to tip-toe out of the room without waking Auntie Bella, set himself up on the Nugget with a matching game, and DIDN’T wake the three of us up.
What?
I don’t even understand.
When he came running into the room (after Ankur opened the door), I asked him, “Ishu, how come you didn’t come into the room and wake us up?!?”
He said, “I’m a BIG BOY AND I KNOW WHAT TO DO.”
Okay, I don’t even know what to do with that. Is this a new chapter in our life? I am blown away.
Anyway, shortly after we all woke up on Saturday, Chandana came over to visit since she is in town for a wedding. I haven’t seen her in TEN YEARS. And I’m SO HAPPY SHE MESSAGED TO SAY SHE WAS JUST ACROSS THE RIVER because y’know how there are some people you reconnect with and it’s like no time has passed? Yes. That’s her. I felt so happy to see her and, now that they’re living in SoCal, I’m hopeful we won’t let another ten years pass by before we see each other again!
The rest of Saturday was relatively low-key. I have been feeling real tired – this lack of sleep thing is catchin’ up to me so I wanted to take it easy. Which we were able to do. Kinda. As much as you can with two kiddos and a husband who needs to study for his board exam.
And then on Sunday morning, Ishu had a tennis lesson. And then we got to meet Mama and Papa Albert for brunch at Pinstripes! They were also in town for a (different) wedding and we felt so excited to get to steal them away for a little bit.
It was so fun to see them too. After SO LONG. I think the last time Bonnie Nani hung out with Ishu, he was Riyu’s age.
And Bonnie Nani knew exactly what to do. The minute we scooted into the booth, she pulled out the book she got him and read to him. And, immediately, there was a soul connection.
I think we’ll get to see them again in November so we’re already looking forward to that.
In the evening, we walked over to Bennett for music time with Stages and park time to get some of our energy out.
What a beautiful weekend this was, getting to reunite with so many special special people.
Feeling so much gratitude and love this morning.
Happy Monday. <3
