Last week of work, my friends.
I’m feeling pretty great about our weekend and it seems like a nice little glimpse into what many of our summer weekends will look like in the coming weeks.
On Friday, after we picked Ishu up from school, we had a little popsicle party in the pavilion. That felt like a fun way to kick off the weekend. All the kids scootering around, hyped up on all the sugar.
Afterward, we walked down the riverwalk to check out a new taco place, Taco Rio. The DJ was there, the churros were great, the rest of the food was whatever (like most places on the riverwalk), but we were just happy to be outside.
They just opened up this week so they’re still figuring out the kinks. We got several things we didn’t order, so they brought out our correct orders and then gave us 25% off the bill for all the mistakes. In the end, it didn’t even matter because everyone was OUT AND HAPPY AND SMILING.
On Saturday morning, Ishu had his swim lessons. Which really tuckered him out because he napped for over 3 hours.
In the evening, we went to our friends’ house for a barbecue. Ishu and Logan met in their toddler classroom and have been in love with each other since. It’s so fun to watch them play together.
The dinner was great and they have a beautiful 3rd floor deck with so much space for the kids to run around. Again, we walked home after the sun set with full bellies and happy hearts.
Sunday morning, we went to the Rooftop Cinema. It’s right on top of the Emily Hotel in the West Loop. They were showing Princess and the Frog – a 9:30am showing! – which felt perfect for us. I love places that open up before 10. I mean, my kid is up at 6am so the earlier, the better, y’know?
Ishu loved the experience. He loved getting to sit in the adirondack chairs, headphones on, with his own little bag of popcorn. To be honest, I loved the experience too. I was half tempted to close my eyes and take the best $20 nap of my life. But I’ve fallen asleep through this movie before so I somehow managed to keep myself awake and watch it from start to finish.
After the movie, we walked around the corner to Time Out Market. We got some goodies for lunch and then eagerly awaited for the arrival of ISHU’S DADI!!!!
She’s here for work this week and – even though she’s out doing audits Monday through Friday – we’re so excited to spend the evenings with her.
Ishu was beyond thrilled to see her face after he woke up from his nap. And we got to spend some time outside chasing rocket balloons that Dadi brought him. And then we all made our way over to Ramen-San for dinner.
Bringing us to today. My last week of work. It’s going to be so dang hard to stay focused when the weather is SO BEAUTIFUL. But thank God for patios with wifi.
Okay, I’m off to go finish some reports.
Hope you all had a beautiful beautiful weekend! I LOVE THE SUMMER!
