Good morning from the kitchen table. Ishu and Ankur are both still sleeping and I’m going to take advantage of the quiet morning to upload some pictures from the weekend.
We were lucky to get some time with Ishu’s Dadi this weekend. She came here this past week for work and work definitely kept her busy. But we got the evenings with her and she had a late flight out on Saturday so we got all day with her Saturday.
Let’s rewind to Friday!
We kept Ishu home from school because he had a dentist appointment in the morning. Wasn’t sure how that was going to go. Fully expected him to be a little traumatized and need some comforting, so we planned to keep him home. And then it turned out to be a real easy peasy appointment.
The dental hygienist came out to the waiting area to call his name.
He stood up and said, “Ishaan? That’s me! I’m so happy to be here!”
And he proceeded to follow all her instructions with no tears, no hesitation, no screaming.
It probably helps that they’ve got a TV in front of him and a TV on the ceiling (for when he’s leaned back) and said TV was playing Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Ha.
But, either way, it feels nice to have his first appointment out of the way.
We took him to the park afterward where we got to meet baby Emmie! They were on their way home from a pediatrician’s appointment and stopped by to say hello. She’s so dang cute and mama is doing well and we were so excited to get to hold the little girl we’ve been eagerly waiting on for the past few weeks.
On Friday afternoon, I had an appointment for my back injury and turns out I hurt my SI joint. Which is, thankfully, something you can heal with a little PT and time. But, man oh man, does it impact ALL THE THINGS right now. Hoping it heals sooner rather than later. I’m ready to be the best PT patient ever.
On Saturday, we went to brunch at a new-to-us place called Batter & Berries. We shared a French Toast flight and loved everything that we ordered. Turns out that the big secret to their batter is that they put syrup IN it. Needless to say, it was all delicious.
When we got home, we planned to go down for Ishu’s swim lessons, but the pool was closed for maintenance. So Ishu and Ankur and Dadi went to Navy Pier to splash in the fountain while I stayed home to rest my back.
They did all the fun, touristy things and Ishu came home with the remnants of a Spongebob popsicle and a dinosaur grabber. He was one happy kiddo.
Eventually, we had to say our goodbyes to Dadi which is always so hard (perhaps even harder now as a family of 3 vs when it was just me and Ankur alone). But, we all took solace in the fact that she’s coming back to spend lots of time with us in August!
On Sunday, Ankur had to go in to work. And it was rainy and super windy outside. So Ishu and I stayed put and watched Tangled (twice) and built book-houses and Portaled the family. I also finished Emily Henry’s new book which was lovely. And started this book.
Today’s my last meeting for work. And I can’t wait ’til summer is finally here and I have no meetings to plan my life around. READY TO FULLY EMBRACE THIS CHICAGO SUMMER.
Hope you had a good weekend 🙂
