Good morning and happy Monday!
I just got back from drop-off and it’s like a switch went off in my kid’s brain. I couldn’t get his jacket off fast enough. He was so eager to run inside the classroom and see his friends and I did not once have to bribe or cajole him to get into the stroller. He was very excited about school today and I’m just runnin’ with the feeling.
We DID get to see all his buddies over the weekend at a birthday party. So that could be a big reason he was ecstatic to get to school. Whatever the case, I’m happy. And light. And airy. All the things you feel when your kid feels GOOD.
I’ve got lots of testing on the docket this week as we scramble to finish up evals for the school year. But I’ve still got 45 minutes of my morning time before work officially starts, so going to do a quick weekend recap!
Friday
On Friday, Ankur and I got to spend some time together. He worked overnight the night before so had Friday off. We picked Ishu up from school early so we could take him to his 3-year well check appointment.
First, let me preface this by saying that this is a kid that used to cry during weight and height checks. Any time he was out of the comfort of his parents’ arms, he’d be screaming bloody murder.
But this time around, it was totally different.
He was so interactive with the receptionist. Trying to check himself in. Spelling out his name for her. And then when we got in the room and the nurse did the blood pressure check, he shouted, “I HAVE ONE OF THOSE AT HOME!”
When she said his blood pressure was 78/52, his eyebrows shot up and he said, “52! That’s a lot of points!”
He got weighed and measured and even pricked on his finger for a lead test. And he did such a great job. I’m so proud of this little human.
Once we got home, we celebrated with The Jungle Book (obviously).
Saturday
On Saturday morning, we went over to Ishu’s classmate’s home by the river to celebrate her 4th birthday! It was princess and superhero themed, so Ishu went all decked out in his Spiderman gear. He was so proud to write his first-ever birthday card.
It was so nice to get to chat with some of the other parents while the kids were running around with their balloon animals, bouncing in the bounce-house, and hanging out with Princess Elsa.
The timing of it was perfect too. I love a party that starts at 10am.
Needless to say, he was exhausted by the time we got home and went down for a nap almost immediately.
In the late afternoon, Ankur went off to another birthday party for one of his co-residents. And Ishu and I hung out at home, painting and playing all the board games and watching Jungle Book, yet again.
Sunday
On Sunday morning, the three of us went to the Navy Pier to see if they had any Cinco de Mayo events going on. We got there and found out it all started in the afternoon, so we ended up at the Children’s Museum.
After his nap, Auntie Bella came over so Ankur and I could go celebrate our 7th anniversary! We kicked off the evening with a movie (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.) and then went to dinner at Carnivale, a fun restaurant in the West Loop that was a mix of South American, Spain and the Caribbean. The ambience was SO FUN and colorful. And I loved our appetizers (Ropa Vieja and Mexican Street Corn).
We got home around 9:30pm and the minute we said bye to Bella, Ankur and I raced into the bedroom to go give Ishu a zillion kisses while he was asleep.
Life is different these days. I ache to have time away from Ishu and then I feel this urgency to hurry home to him.
I am laughing typing this up, thinking about last night. Me sprinting into the bedroom and Ankur running behind me to compete over who was gonna get to kiss his sweet cheek first.
THE LIFE OF A PARENT.
Anyway, I am off to look a little presentable to start the day. Hope you had a happy happy weekend!

God Bless you dear sweet Mathur family on your 7 Year Wedding Anniversary. It seems like it was just yesterday. How time has passed and how this little munchkin Ishu has taken over your lives and of course lives of his grandparents and all his sisters and brothers!
Loved reading how he has grown up after his 3rd birthday mark. His dr. visits and school drop offs are becoming smooth sailing!!
Keep Smiling, Stay Blessed!
