It’s May.
I don’t know how-the-heck it snuck up on us so fast. But here we are. And in less than two months, we’ll be on a one-way flight to Chicago. It’s bittersweet. I am so happy that Ankur will be working at one of the top rehab facilities. I’m also really looking forward to experiencing a new city.
But, after two years of being in California now, it’s going to be real hard to say goodbye to the rest of the family. Again.
Fortunately, we’re moving to a place where most people can get to pretty easily. It’s a direct flight from most airports.
But now that May is here, I feel this urgency to spend as much time with the fam as I possibly can. Since Ankur has a busy, busy, busy month this month, Ishu and I will be spending a lot of this month in Orange County.
Saturday
On Saturday, I got to Newport around 8am. Made breakfast for my parents and then left the baby with them while I took myself out on a solo date to the farmer’s market.
After six consecutive days of spending 24 hours with our now-toddler, I was more than excited to have some time alone. And they were, of course, more than excited to have some time with Ishu. Win win.
I was only gone for an hour but it felt OH-SO nice.
When I got home, I put him down for a nap and then enjoyed this yummy home-cooked food.
With all the free time that day, I managed to finish this book. It was okay. 3 out of 5 stars. I don’t know how or when it started, but murder mysteries/thrillers have been my jam and it’s all I want to read these days.
After about two hours, Ishu woke up and first thing he said was “boon.” We’re STILL all about the balloons over here.
Somebody had to tell him it wasn’t his birthday anymore and he wasn’t happy about it.
(Just kidding. He fell right before this picture was taken and his mom – being the wonderfully, sweet person she is – decided to snap a photo instead of comforting him. Lovely.)
Fortunately for him, he has many people in the house who are on Team Ishu and will push his mama to the side to cuddle him and calm him down.
Sunday
On Sunday, we woke up early (I don’t even know why I specify “early” anymore when we all know every damn day is an ‘early’ one with this kid) and walked to the park up in Newport Coast.
Ishaan is still too little to do much other than swing, but my mama took him down the slide and he also wobbled around the little play structure. So did his Nani.
His Nanu pushed him on the swing, but I’m pretty sure his Nanu’s favorite part was when he got to plop him in a tree. Look at that naughty face. On my dad. Not Ishu.
It’s so fun to watch my papa be a Nanu.
He’s so ready to pass down all the naughty things to this baby. (And Ishu’s Nani is right around the corner, ready to intervene at any time. My mama is overprotective. My papa is the complete opposite. Nice little balance, y’know?)
Anyway, now we’re back home with Ankur and Ishu was happy happy happy to see his ba-pa.
They’re both sleeping right now while I, of course, woke up at 2am with Ishu and then couldn’t fall back asleep when he did.
Maybe I’ll go snuggle him and see if I can get another hour in.
Hope you all have a good week!
