Good morning!
It’s raining over here, but only for a short while more. The next 10 days in Chicago are looking great weather-wise. Spring spring spring.
….okay, wait…I’m interrupting myself to say the following…
9 out of 10 times I sit down to write a blog post, the very second I write my first sentence, one of my kids wakes up. I could be making an elaborate breakfast for the family. Or I could be doing laundry. And they’ll keep snoozing.
But the minute I make my coffee or sit down to write a sentence, it’s like my kids can feel in their BONES that mama is taking a minute for herself AND HELL NO WE WON’T LET THAT HAPPEN.
…
Okay end rant.
They are both fed and settled.
Now mama’s sipping on her coffee and going to upload some snapshots from the weekend.
Friday
We picked Ishu up early from school because we had his 4-year well child check. I thought it would be a good idea to have him skip nap time at school so we didn’t have to rush between pick-up and doctor’s appointment.
Fail on my part.
There were LOTS OF TEARS during the shots.
And I’m fairly certain none of the tears had anything to do with the shots. They were the tears of a skipped-nap kid.
But we just camped out at home the rest of the evening and pulled it together.
Sleepy kid.
Our pediatrician suggested easing outta naps. And I’m just not ready for it. He doesn’t sleep 11-12 hours at night. He’s pretty aligned to our sleep schedule. So, I think we gotta keep the nap up for a bit longer.
And that’s fine.
We really love our pediatrician for how understanding he is that every kid is different and every family is different and we all kinda do our own thing. We’ve got a happy, healthy, growing kiddo and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.
Saturday
On Saturday, Auntie Abby came over to hang out with the kids while Ankur and I got some much needed time for ourselves. We haven’t been together – without a kid with us – since Florida. So, I’m pretty sure this morning date was well overdue. Ha.
We went to Dash of Salt and Pepper in Lincoln Park. I loved it strictly because it had an entire WALL of hot sauce you could choose from. And, yes, I brought handfuls over to the table to sample them all.
It just feels oh-so nice to get to talk to each other without being interrupted so much.
Ishu’s in the phase where if we start to talk to each other, he’ll amplify his voice. And then when we try to keep talking and ignore him, the talking gets even more frantic and amplified. Ha. GOD FORBID HIS PARENTS CONNECT ABOUT ONE SINGLE THING THAT DOESN’T HAVE TO DO WITH HIM. 🙂
We met the kids at the park and spent some time enjoying the sunshine together.
Ishu skipped his nap, again, so it was early bedtime for both the babies. Ankur and I watched The Office and I finished Abby Jimenez’ new book. 4 out of 5 stars. It’s about finding love and exploring emotional trauma. I like that she added this layer in a careful, respectful, thought-out way. And not every storyline had a happy ending. Which feels very much like real life.
Sunday
Sunday was a busy day for our little guy.
Ankur did the morning shift with him on his trampoline park playdate.
We are now members to the trampoline park. Because apparently getting a membership was cheaper than paying for a 90-minute session.
So, there we have it. We are trampoline-park-going people. But Ishu seemed to have the best time, so probably not a bad investment.
He napped in the car on the way home.
And then Ankur and I swapped babies.
Ankur stayed home with Riyu and I took Ishu to a friend’s birthday party.
Busy guy.
And also keeping his parents very busy too. Ha.
Anyway, time to go dive into the work emails.
Be back whenever I can!
HAPPY MONDAY!
