Back to the grind.
Friday
It was really nice to be able to have some down time with everyone since that rarely ever happens throughout the school day!
I didn’t get all the little tasks done and would have stayed longer to wrap things up, but we had an overnight staff retreat in Big Basin and I definitely didn’t want to be driving on windy roads while it was dark out.
Luckily, we made it just as the sun went down. It was gorgeous driving through all the greenery. I know I always say this, but I can’t believe how lucky I am that I live so close to the redwoods! After we set up camp, we pulled out the wine, s’mores and Bananagrams!
We threw in a few rounds of Cards Against Humanity. I didn’t win a single round. I clearly think that I am way funnier than people actually perceive me. UGH. But, at least I know I can always entertain myself. We ended up going to bed around midnight – partially because the park had quiet hours starting at 10PM. But mostly because we were all exhausted.
Saturday:
We packed up our things and drove up to the main camp headquarters to grab some coffee and discuss the 15-16 school year.
I would be a happy camper if all our meetings were outside (no pun intended).
After our discussion, we went for a 2-hour hike.
There were hundreds of trails to choose from but we decided to go with one that led to a waterfall.
There’s something about running water that puts my mind at ease.
We hung out at the falls for a bit and then turned back around to head back. We took the main road back down instead of the trail and came across this little critter.
Harmless. But still gives me the heebie jeebies when I see it sliding around and sticking it’s tongue out.
When we got back to the main camp headquarters, a few people stuck around to get lunch. But Bruni and I decided to head back town and grab lunch at Village Burger bar in downtown Saratoga.
Later in the evening, I met up with some folks to celebrate the fab Fay’s big 3-0! (Her official birthday is TODAY! Happy birthday, Fay!)
We went to Amber Restaurant in Mountain View. Normally, I’m really picky about my Indian food and generally avoid Indian restaurants because I’m an elitist and haven’t found anything comparable to my mom’s cooking. 🙂 But this place was REALLY good. Like, I would probs go back. Soon.
It was so fun hanging out with them all. It’s crazy to think that we are so close, but just don’t get the chance to link up that often. But when we do, it’s always the best time.
After dinner, I drove to Julia’s where we got ready to go out to downtown Mountain View. And by, “got ready,” I don’t mean changing my clothes and putting on make-up. I mean we took snapshots, played with kinetic sand, and made a few drinks. My going-out outfit consisted of: a sweater, some leggings, and tennis shoes. Don’t judge.
We decided to go to Molly’s in Mountain View. And then proceeded to dance the night away. I can’t remember the last time I stayed out until 2AM.
But I did it. #ForeverYoung
Sunday:
I woke up nice and early, which usually ends up happening on nights I go out. I did work for a few hours in the morning, but then fell back asleep around 2PM for a couple hours. Oops.
When I woke up, I wanted to get some stuff prepped for the week, but I felt too tired to walk to the grocery store, so I decided to make one of those “throw-everything-you’ve-got-in-a-pot” meals. And now I have a clean fridge, clean pantry, and lunch for the week.
And cookies. Because once the oven is on, you might as well just make cookies. Efficiency.
Now it’s time to get up, get moving, and start the day.
Have a great one 🙂
