It is a dark, gloomy, rainy, and SUPER windy morning over here.
I’m thinking Ishu and I are not leaving the apartment at all today. Just like yesterday.
Thankfully, we got out on Saturday. But, I need to start thinking about fun indoor activities so we’re not spending all winter watching Curious George and Daniel Tiger.
Anyway, I’m going to do a quick weekend recap and then log off to figure out what we’re going to do today.
On Friday, after Bella left, Ishu and I went to the Children’s Museum.
I love how he’s been there so many times and he’s still not bored of it. Thankfully. And, as he gets older and older and able to access more things, it’ll be an entirely different experience for him. I’m pretty happy with the fact we got a membership and hope we can continue going through the winter!
We didn’t stay for too long because we had to be home to get our Five Squared delivery. And then we spent the rest of the evening Portaling with the fam. Ishu loves the “Read a Story” feature on the Facebook Portal. More specifically, he loves the Itsy Bitsy Spider.
I need to record the way he says “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” It is probably my new favorite thing he says these days.
On Saturday, we left Ankur at home to work and Ishu and I went to the zoo.
They were having a Halloween event where they encouraged kids to show up in costume and they had various stops for kids to trick-or-treat.
I didn’t know about it beforehand, but Ishu had penguins on his onesie, so that passed for a costume. I guess.
We walked in and the first stop gave us a banana. We turned right – heading toward the giraffes – and immediately got to see a Black Rhino.
All the other kids ran past us wanting to find the candy stops or other animals. But Ishu and I stood there for 10 minutes watching the rhino eat. It made me want to press “pause” and be in that moment forever. This age is so, SO great. We could have stood there and watched the rhino for the entire two hours and he would have been absolutely fascinated. All the other kids were older and more aware that there were other things to see, candy to eat. And my kid is still so very much in the “now” phase. The “let’s do what we’re doing now” phase.
I want to keep him here forever.
Eventually I tore him away from the rhino so we could see other things. The monkeys were a favorite last time we went to the zoo. This time, I think it was a toss-up between the polar bear and the lemurs. He liked watching the lemurs jump from branch to branch and tried to mimic them.
“Mee-mohs,” he says as he attempts to get both feet off the ground.
We also got to see zebras and flamingoes and giraffes and lions. And, of course, Ishu tried to “roar” at the lions. He really is quite a spectacle at the zoo. Maybe they need to make an exhibit for him.
Like, you know how they have YouTube reaction videos where you can watch someone watching something so you can see their reaction?
I feel like there should be a YouTube channel about Ishu’s reaction to everything. Because it is the most entertaining thing EVER. Not just for me. Seriously. He was entertainment for everyone at the zoo.
Anyway, he was POOPED by the time we got home.
Ankur put him to sleep, while I took my plant to the plant hospital.
Swapped one baby out for the other.
There’s not really a plant hospital.
I just took it to our local plant store so they could repot it for me. First, there were tiny gnats. And then there were tiny worms. Which I think were the tiny larvae of the gnats.
The Internet told me that the little worms eat at the roots of the plants.
I just think they’re gross.
So, I either toss out the plant (which I’ve already invested so much money and time in!). Or I get help.
So I got some help.
When I got back home, Ishu and Ankur were both asleep in the bedroom. So I stayed out in the living room to tune into some WASP sessions. They had most of their sessions accessible through Zoom this year. Which was really nice for people who didn’t want to attend an in-person conference. But I’m not the best at staying focused during online webinars. Eventually, when the presenter started reading off the slides (that I downloaded), I decided to log off and read the slides myself.
And then I did a little work I couldn’t get done during the week.
SUNDAY was Karwa Chauth.
I haven’t kept the fast for the past two years. Because in 2019, I was pregnant. In 2020, I was breastfeeding.
So it felt like a LONG time since we’ve participated.
But both Ankur and I were at home and able to fast. So we did.
We were in our PJs all day. And we DoorDashed Indian food to break our fast with. And we didn’t exactly SEE the moon (thanks to all these buildings in our way). So we just ate at 8pm when the moonrise was supposed to happen.
Our modified Karwa Chauth.
Food has never tasted so good.
Now we’ve got a DAY ahead of us. An indoor day. Please wish me luck. I’m gonna need it.
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Have you looked on Pinterest for sensory bin ideas? There are HUNDREDS and most is stuff you have around the house. When my younger two were way little I would get a huge plastic bin (or one of the smaller inflatable tubs or pools) and fill it with something new every couple of days. Dried noodles and rice were always a favorite, and I’d just put it in a gallon size ziploc to reuse for play later. They’d use measuring cups and stuff with it, bury toys, etc. We get snow here but I hate playing outside, so I’d fill the tub/pool with snow and let them play in the house. (After putting blankets/towels down so it doesn’t make a huge mess). That was always fun.
