Rollin’ With It
“Rollin’ with it” has been the theme of the week.
Like, Tuesday, when we arrived at swim lessons and I realized I’d forgotten to pack Ishu’s swimsuit.
Rollin’ with it.
He went into the pool in his Christmas pajamas.
A year ago, he would have been on the ground in a full meltdown.
But I guess now we’re rollin’ with it.
And apparently the universe decided to keep testing that muscle.
Remember how Ishu’s teacher quit back in November? Well. We sorta thought we had landed somewhere stable for now. Only to find out that his current teacher has also put in her two-week notice. We assumed he’d be in this classroom through the end of May. Turns out they’re closing the classroom and the elementary program altogether at the end of this month.
So we’re rollin’ with it.
It’s hard to believe we only have a few months left here before packing up and heading back to California.
Anyway, can’t linger on that thought for too long because I feel overwhelmed with feelings about it.
Yesterday was our LEAP day at the zoo. If you’ve got a 2-4 year old who’s not in daycare and you’re in Chicago, you’ve gotta check this program out.
It’s a fun activity to do with your kiddo, but it’s also pretty magical to be at the zoo before it opens to the public. We were hanging in the Regenstein African Journey area yesterday and, wowie, I don’t think I’ve been in there when it was so EMPTY. The guides set up activities all the way through the exhibit, so we wandered back and forth, hanging with the hippos, giraffes, and meerkats.Â
I love taking the kids to do fun kid things, but I really love when it’s something that’s fun for me too. This one checks both boxes.
A few other things from the week:
- Shrinking Season 3 is back and I love having something to look forward to.Â
- I’m listening to Frieda’s new book on audio and it’s been fun having that in my ears while the kids are making ALL THE NOISE in the evenings. Because I’m just so hooked that I’m not even overstimulated and the kids can go hog-wild and I’m just smiling and nodding, while trying to figure out who Debbie’s gonna go after next.Â
- Ankur’s schedule is lighter this month so he dropped Ishu off to school yesterday for the first time in WHO EVEN KNOWS HOW LONG?! I’ve been carrying the full weight of mornings for what feels like forever, so only having to get ONE child out the door felt like a small but meaningful gift.
- Riyu’s pronouncing “hamburger” as hang-uh-BUR and I never want him to say it any other way. He’s also saying the “sk” for the /x/ sound. So he says “fosk” for fox. And “eskercising” for exercising. And says “hostipal” instead of hospital. And “cupit’ instead of Qtip. And, gosh, I’m already sick over the thought of him saying all these words correctly.
Okay that’s all I got for now.
Have a good one!
