Good morning!
We signed Ishu up for another session of Preschool Prep: Grownup and Me. It’s once a week. And gives us a little taste of what pre-school will be like. And the best part is that the grown-up (me!) gets to stick around.
I don’t know why pre-schools don’t allow for that.
It’d make it so much easier to transition the kid if they got familiar with the environment and the people WITH their safe person nearby. And then gradually fade their person out.
All I know is when we are ready to put Ishu in school or daycare (next year), I’m gonna be *that* mom that will ask for some sorta gradual release. I know my kid and I KNOW it’ll be easier on THEM if he gets to have me around for a little bit.
The session was structured pretty much the same as the last time we did it.
Start with some open play, do a little scarf welcome/singing, ABCs with the eggs, rocking back and forth while counting to 20, art, open play, and then a read aloud. And finish with bubbles!
By the end of the 8-weeks, Ishu did a pretty great job following the schedule. It became so predictable for all the kids. But, if you ask me, he would have preferred to ditch the art and play some more.
And, lucky for him, they changed the structure for this session where kids could *choose* to do art OR do open play. And, of course, my child was the only one who didn’t even realize they pulled out the tables for art. He just wanted to play with all the sea creatures. (Also, the theme for yesterday was ocean animals and, well, perfect timing because we’ve been going to the aquarium).
We also love the teacher! We had her last time and Ishu seemed to really grow fond of her.
The class is only once a week, but it’s something to look forward to. I love seeing all the little toddlers running around the room. It’s a little bit chaotic at times. But controlled chaos. I like watching them all interact with one another. They’re a cute group of kids who are so loving and sweet.
Now, we’ve got the day ahead of us and I’m debating whether we want to go to the aquarium or try out an indoor playground about a mile from us. It’s gonna be a hot, hot, hot day. So maybe we’ll spend some time outside this morning ’til it gets too warm and then plan our next move.
Happy Wednesday!
