Good morning, good morning!
Ankur and I celebrated our 8-year wedding anniversary yesterday. The engagement party that turned into a wedding. The best thing we ever did to kick off this marriage. Ha.
We don’t really do anything big for our anniversaries. A card exchanged. A special dinner made.
Yesterday, I gave Ankur a card and I wrote something on there along the lines of how our lives have changed so drastically since those quiet days of Harrogate. How we are very much living in this phase of life with chaotic evenings and tornado mornings.
Case and point:
Ishu was SO EXCITED to hand me my coffee that the both of them had made for me as a surprise. He reached for the heavy glass, started to pick it up to hand it to me and, BAM! It spilled. All over. In between the couch and the wall and the table. He looked at the coffee dribbling everywhere, came running to my leg, and his eyes filled with tears.
“I’m SORRY, Mama,” he tried to say with a shaky voice.
I hugged him so tight.
He cried and he cried and he cried.
Ankur came over and scooped him up and reassured him that it was OK. That accidents happen. And they could make me another coffee. Ishu nuzzled into his neck and moved in closer to his Papa.
And that, my friends, is why I chose this man. And choose this man. Over and over and over again.
We very much have days where we are “two ships passing in the night.” Days we only get to talk logistics and schedules. Nights where we (mostly me) fall asleep while putting the kids to bed and never get around to finishing that movie we started weeks ago.
But he’s the best partner for me. In life. And love. And parenthood.
We celebrated with lunch yesterday (with our third wheel in tow) and breakfast together this morning (again, with our third wheel in tow). So they were more of a “one of us gets to eat and the other one entertain and then we’ll switch” kinda situation. But, I’ll take broken brunch with this guy whenever.
Some day, we will sit and eat our meal from start to finish (without having to scarf it down in 4 minutes). For now, I appreciate running the circus with this partner of mine.
Happy ANNIVERSARY TO US!
