Only a Cow
I love when kids pick up random words or phrases we use and then try them out on their own. But I love it even more when they use them in a not-quite-right way.
It cracks me up. Because it’s like they’re trying so hard to mimic us but haven’t fully figured out the English language obvi. So they just toss the word in where they think it belongs. And the result is always funny and adorable and THE BEST.
Like Riyu and the word “only.” It’s not always used correctly. AND I LOVE IT.
At the farm earlier this week, he saw a cow and said, “It’s not a GECKO. It’s ONLY A COW.”
(Ishu has this remote controlled gecko, so geckos were apparently top of mind. I don’t actually think he was confusing the two. It was just the way he used “only”, like, “Oh, it’s not this tiny little reptile. It’s only this massive animal.”)
Or his use of the word “anymore.”
He’ll use it whenever he corrects himself. Like the other day, I said “Say cheese!” and he shouted, “Say trees!”
Ishu laughed and said, “No Riyu, not TREES. Say CHEESE.”
And Riyu goes, “Oh! It’s not trees anymore. It’s cheese!”
Same thing when he called a toy helicopter an airplane.
“Oh! It’s not an airplane anymore. It’s a helicopter!”
Kids.
I love this age so much so much so much.
Yesterday, we took advantage of another beautiful fall day and moseyed around the Navy Pier area enjoying all the colors.
We ended up at the children’s museum. The windows in the water exhibit face the fountain and the city and it’s just the most beautiful view. I feel so lucky that this is just a random Wednesday for us.
Today, we’ve got a friendofthemom brunch and at some point I’ll tackle some things on the to-do list. It’s been sitting, collecting dust on our dining table for quite some time now.
Ha.
Okay, I’m off!
Have a good day!
