Mothers Day weekend kicked off with our anniversary on Friday.
Ankur had to work during the day, but was, fortunately, done relatively early enough for us to have a fun dinner date. However, BECAUSE it was Friday, it meant that restaurants were packed (well, as much as COVID would allow) and we’d have to wait at least an hour to get on a list somewhere.
So, we celebrated our anniversary on the couch. As I predicted.
Hema gifted us our anniversary dinner! We had Chicago-style pizza. It was our final farewell to California trying to do deep dish. Before we head to the actual land of the deep dish!
We ordered the pizza and then started bedtime routine, fully expecting Ishaan to be asleep by the time the food got here. And then he ended up taking an hour and a half to fall asleep.
All the veteran parents we told this to said, “DUH. It’s like they KNOW you’re going to celebrate without them and they are NOT going to stand for it.”
Oof.
What a cockblocker.
Ankur and I usually don’t do gifts, but he surprised me with this canvas that I absolutely love.
Which inspired Ankur’s lunch note the following day.
Yes, Ankur had to work this weekend as well. So the baby and I packed up and went to Newport to spend the rest of the weekend there.
When we got there, my mama wasn’t in the garage like she normally is, eagerly waiting to unbuckle Ishu from the car seat. She ran down to the grocery store to get a balloon for Ishu.
A Mother’s day balloon.
Her holiday. His balloon.
I think we’re both in agreement that he should have a balloon at ALL times because they make him the happiest.
After breakfast, Ishu and I went to Fashion Island and met up with Randy and Lara and their two girls. I can’t even remember the last time I saw Randy. It was before his older daughter, Evie, was born. So, years. Oof.
Hopefully we won’t let that much time pass before we see each other again!
It was so nice seeing him be a dad. When we were in college, I always joked that Randy was already a father that was just waiting on kids. He had those dad jokes DOWN.
When we got home, we were met with surprise visitors and we played and we played and we played for the rest of the evening. Ishu took zero naps on Saturday.
He was an overtired, cranky baby on Saturday night. But it was well worth it to see him have so much fun with everyone.
On Sunday, Ishu woke up bright-eyed and bushytailed as if he hadn’t kept his mom up all night long.
We went for a walk. And by “we,” I mean, my mama took Ishu on a walk with Anita Nani and I left the house ten minutes later so I could have some quiet time. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ME.
A podcast + a walk + Starbucks coffee + someone else watching my baby is the perfect gift.
Ankur also left this envelope in the car without me knowing.
A card from Ishu, translated by Ankur. And a Cheerio thrown in for good measure.
I love them both the hardest.
And then Sister ordered us sandwiches for lunch.
Ike’s sandwiches is the Budhraja family’s love language. And Jersey Mike’s. We are a sandwich loving fam.
Even Ishu happily ate the vegan meatballs from the Meatless Mike. Delicious.
He ate himself into a food coma and then was ready for a nap.
While he slept, I uploaded all my photos and got started on this blog post.
When he woke up, he spent some time with his Nanu before heading back home to Ankur. He has today off, which is nice because he transitions to nights this week and so it’s nice to have a day to adjust.
AND THE BEST PART OF THE DAY IS WE HAVE LEFTOVER IKE’S.
Win win win.
Hope everyone had a beautiful weekend! I most certainly did. And felt the most most most loved.
Questions of the Day:
How did you spend this weekend?
What is your love language?
