Good morning! We are headed to Lake Geneva this weekend. Thought we’d take advantage of Ankur’s late start workdays (since he switches to a new rotation soon!) and book a mini weekend trip for our fam.
It feels a little silly to leave one lake (we are literally RIGHT NEXT to Lake Michigan here) to go sit next to another lake. Especially in the dead of winter.
But, for some reason, I feel giddy and excited about it because, well, it’s just different.
Ankur and I used to take a ton of these mini weekend trips when he was in medical school. Yeah, we were located in the middle of nowhere Tennessee, but if you drove 3-4 hours in any direction, we’d land in a pretty big city or somewhere fun to explore.
And now we’ve got our little tagalong with us.
We probably won’t do too much. Again, some part of me feels silly to be spending money on a cabin when there isn’t much going on right now. But I also think this weekend away is exactly what our fam needs to break out of the monotony. (Yes, I realize we just got back from NY. This feels different and less rushed. It’s a less than 2-hour drive away. We can come and go on our own terms. And, since we’re driving, the typical anxiety I have prior to a vacation is non-existent).
I also think there’s something to be said about finding opportunities to connect with your family in a place that’s not your home.
Because, let’s be honest, sometimes I want to stare lovingly into my husband’s eyes and tell him how much I adore him. But then I spy the load of laundry behind him and IT’S ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT.
So, we will enjoy this weekend away.
No loads of laundry pulling at my attention.
No living room I “should probably vacuum.”
And no desk I “really need to clean up so I can get my head on straight.”
We’re leaving it behind this weekend. All of it can be Monday’s problem.
Question of the Day:
What are your plans this weekend?
What’s the best weekend trip you’ve been on?
