It’s been a while since I’ve done a “Scenes from the Weekend” post, but I may be bringing them back as I explore our new town over these next few months.
Even though the weekend was a long one, this post may be relatively short since I didn’t take as many pictures these past few days. I spent most of the weekend in Knoxville, moving boxes into our apartment. We aren’t moving the furniture and the rest of the stuff until mid-June. But, since we already have the keys, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to move a few things in at a time.
Friday
I was able to leave work early and hit the road with a packed car. I intentionally didn’t workout that morning because I had a feeling the carrying-boxes-up-two-flights-of-stairs was going to be enough of a workout.
Still, whenever in (or around) Knoxville, I always want to take advantage of ALL the things – be it grocery shopping, a yummy place to eat, or a workout class. So, around 4:30, we went to TurboSpin and did one of their 50 minute classes.
To say I was sore the rest of the weekend would be an understatement.
Saturday
I woke up, ate breakfast, and met Katy at the park to do some laps. We decided to make another trek to the Knoxville area since Katy wanted to do a few things at her new house. I was happy to tag along and bring a few boxes of my own and do some unpacking.
But, first, we had to eat.
We had heard a few things about Lakeside Tavern in West Knoxville and wanted to try it out and see if it could be one of our future happy hour spots.
The view of the lake, the food, the drinks, the rocking chairs out front. All of it made me want to come back again. And again. And again. It’s also 15 minutes from where I will be working next year so I think we will frequent this place often.
Sunday
Sunday was Ankur’s birthday and, since he’d be studying for most of the day, I wanted to make his breakfast extra special. I woke up early and went to King Donuts in Middlesboro for a morning cake of sorts.
I also just made him his traditional breakfast but then added in a side of hash browns and fresh fruit to make it a little more special.
After breakfast, he went back to the books and I went back to…
….you guessed it.
Knoxville.
This time, I met up with one of my friends from college who happened to be in town for a wedding. We didn’t hang out that much in college, but we did do a UniCamp session together. And, chances are, if you do UniCamp, you’re likely one of my favorite people for life.
Anyway, it just worked out that we were able to see each other for brunch. And it was so great catching up with her after 10 years! I’m pretty certain that there will be more hangouts in our future.
Since I was already in Knoxville, I decided to make a run to the grocery store and pick up a few items for the new apartment. While there, I decided to unpack a few clothes and hang them.
This was, obviously, the first thing unpacked. #Priorities
I also unpacked and organized our board game closet. Because, again, priorities.
We had to downsize quite a bit when we moved into our Harrogate apartment. There was absolutely no storage space and everything was smaller. So now that we’re moving into this much bigger apartment, I feel like there is more SPACE than STUFF. Which is nice. But, I also think it wouldn’t hurt to invest in some more board games.
Also, because I’m reaching that age where “Board Game Night’ is more of a thing than a “Going Out on the Town” night.
Any suggestions?
After unpacking a bit (and hopefully for the last time before the BIG move), I drove back home to celebrate the birthday boy some more.
We spent the rest of the night making pizza, watching Dr. Strange, and spending some quality time together.
Monday
I made it to the gym – barely. But mostly did a lot of back stretches and walking because I was still so sore from the past few days. I also managed a trip to Morristown to get my eyebrows done. But, the weather was pretty terrible so the rest of the day was spent indoors binge watching The Mindy Project and cleaning up a bit.
I’m very much looking forward to the end of the boards so I can have my husband back. At the same time, it’s pretty impressive to share space with someone who is so focused, dedicated, and determined to do well. Pretty darn inspiring.
Hope you all had a beautiful weekend and I hope to be back here more often!
Questions of the Day:
- What board games are worth investing in?
- Are you a Marvel movie person?
I swear I wasn’t before, but I think I’m getting a little more into it. Weird. - How was your long weekend? What did you do?

Birthday Blessings for the special Soul! Love him lots. I was in the same ranks with Ankur and studied all weekend. I have a big series 65 test I’ll be traveling to Tuscon to prepare for in June. So I’ll pray for him and you pray for me!!!

A night at home playing games with friends definitely sounds perfect at this stage of life! In fact, I’m trying to make sure we get one planned to happen in the next month! Unpacking is a big job, but it sounds like a good thing to have more space than stuff, haha!

Happy birthday to Ankur! I love the sound of that restaurant you tried! And I agree, staying in and playing board games is much better to me than going out. I’m glad you’re getting stuff moved and ready at your new place!

Sounds like a great weekend and congrats on your new apartment and move back to Knoxville. Your pics have me craving donuts and pizza. Thank goodness I’m off to Spin class in an hour. 🙂 As for board games, I used to play Clue with my kids quite a bit. When I was a kid myself, my brother and I would play Masterpiece and Monopoly and Chess. I should get back into games. I like your priorities, Divya!

I definitely like when I can start moving some things into a new place rather thane everything all at once. I may start to unpack, but really I like to take the opportunity to clean the place myself before there’s a ton of boxes and craziness. This will definitely be me in the next couple months as I’m on the hunt for a new apartment closer to the boyfriend and work.

We LOVE board games in our house! Right now, we’re all enjoying Santorini. It’s fairly simple to play, so even my 9-year-old loves it. My husband and I are enjoying Forbidden Island as well!
