I’ve been silent on the blog for the past week because we’ve been in Denver!
Ankur and I have always wanted to go to Denver together so, as an early birthday gift for him, we booked flights for the three of us and spent a long weekend there.
Here are some of the highlights from our weekend.
Seeing Aaron after 10 YEARS!
I cannot believe we’ve gone so long without seeing each other. It made my heart so happy to watch him play with Ishu. Ishu took a liking right away to Uncle Aaron. Probs because he played his lava game and hopscotch with him.
We got to meet Aaron’s husband, Brandon. And see his beautiful PLANT-FILLED home. And meet the two dogs. It’s the best feeling in the world when you get to reconnect with the people who know you inside and out.
YOGURTLAND
After dinner our first night, we went to Yogurtland with Aaron and Brandon. Which, to some people, may not seem like a highlight. But we don’t live next to any froyo places in Chicago. SHOCKINGLY. I mean, I’d give them the best business. But donuts and cupcakes are more popular where we are. Maybe because of the long winter?
Either way, I was thrilled to be back in my element at Yogurtland. Making my tart concoction. Ishu was pretty thrilled with his rainbow sprinkles and banilla ice cream as well.
Indulging in Biscuit Sandwiches
We didn’t really come in with food places we NEEDED to try. But, Jenn recommended this place for breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. It also kept us full all day until dinner. (Ishu, however, did not appreciate the biscuits. His loss).
City Park
We didn’t get to explore the entirety of City Park, but we spent an awful lot of time on this playground. Ishu loved the We-Go-Round (which is also wheelchair-accessible! They also have a wheelchair swing. I LOVE AN INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND).
Ishu’s Newest Song Obsession
Ankur always plays the Spotify playlist, “Classic 2000s/90s Mix” and Ishu took a liking to Outkast. He has requested the “Hey Ya” song multiple times since he was first introduced to it. And it’s really fun watching him try to speak the lyrics as fast as Outkast can speak them. Ha.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
When I first put a call out on the Internet for ideas for our trip, two people recommended the zoo out in Colorado Springs (over the Denver Zoo). And, man oh man, were they right.
This was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. The coolest zoo I’ve ever seen.
Trees below us, trees above us, trees all around us. Each “layer” of the mountain a different region.
My favorite part was right when you walk in, you can feed the giraffes. And they just stick their heads out over the railing and scoop up the lettuce with their massively long tongues.
One giraffe had a green tongue from eating so much lettuce.
It felt so magical and beautiful and was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had!
AirBnB on Logan Street
Our rental house was on Logan Street, which I loved for many reasons. One, it was real close to Pearl Street which is a 1-mile tree-lined promenade. With lots of restaurants and breweries and ICE CREAM!
But the other reason is that Ishu’s best friend from his first classroom is named Logan. So he just thought it was the best dang thing ever that the street was named after Logan.
It was a quick trip, but I’m so glad we got to create these memories together as a family!
Denver is definitely a beautiful city and I totally get the appeal. Hope we get to go back again some day!
Now it’s back to real life. We got back to the most beautiful weather here in Chicago. And I can finally, FINALLY put these darn winter coats away. PRAISE THE LORD.
Have a happy day 🙂
