Hello hello!
We’ve been back from Arizona since Saturday, but I’ve been in recovery mode. Not quite wanting to open up the blog and do the work of uploading the pictures and writing a recap.
But I’ve got a little caffeine kick and some free time this morning. So it’s now or never.
LET’S GO.
We spent spring break in Arizona with the fam and it was a much needed reunion. Happy to get to see the family. Happy to get to watch Maya and Ishu become the best of friends. And, of course, happy to get some sunshine into our lives.
We spent half the week in Scottsdale and half the week in Sedona.
The day we landed was Ravi Papa’s birthday. So we celebrated with some Chinese food for dinner and an ice cream cake from Coldstone.
On Monday, we went on a very short hike where Ishu – who is currently obsessed with all things Lion King – kept running off to find Pride Rock.
We also spent a lot of time in the AirBnB – playing in the pool a bit and then doing an Easter egg hunt in the backyard. Ankur had the brilliant idea of labeling all the eggs with an “M” or an “I,” so Ishu would leave the ones for Maya on the ground. And it worked. He was so cute trying to point Maya in the direction of her eggs. While Maya – like Ishu last year – found one egg and was completely satisfied with the one egg alone.
On Tuesday, we had quite the action-packed day.
We piled in our mini-vans and drove the 15 minutes to the Arizona Boardwalk.
We spent the morning at the aquarium. Still not quite sure who was the most excited to be there: the kids or the dads.
At one point, while the grown-ups went to sit through this rotating theatre type thing (while Sister and I stayed outside with napping Maya and an almost-napping Ishu), we heard someone announce that a VIP was coming through. We stood off to the side and I heard Sister say, “OH MY GOD, IT’S A PENGUIN!”
At which point, I had to sit Ishu up and ruin nap time for him because HOW CAN YOU NOT WAKE UP TO SEE A PENGUIN WADDLING AROUND THE AQUARIUM!? Her name was Sedona and she was so stinkin’ cute and I only got a video and not a picture. So I can’t upload that here. Oh well.
Worth the missed nap time, for sure.
Then, we paused for lunch at some Dino Grille at the Boardwalk. And then made our way over to Pangaea (which, to be quite honest, was not worth the $$$). LUCKILY, we stayed for the live show and then Dexter the Dino made an appearance that made the experience a little better.
Especially when my papa immediately volunteered to play a game with him (without any prodding on our end. He genuinely wanted to play along because he’s a 10 year old at heart).
We were all pretty wiped by the time we got home. (And Ishu ended up falling asleep in the car and taking a late nap. So, really, win win. A penguin and a nap. BAM).
On Wednesday, we packed up the AirBnB and made the almost-2 hour drive over to Sedona. We wasted no time and decided to go on a short hike to see the sun set behind the beautiful red rocks.
On Thursday, the dads played tennis, we walked along highway 179, Ishu (and his Dadi) went in the kiddie pool, and we went to dinner at Javelinas.
And on Friday, the mamas got massages, we attempted to do a bit of hiking, ate lunch in the sunshine, and made s’mores in the evening.
The week flew by and we were, per usual, not ready to say bye to the family. We’ve been looking forward to this week for so long and it’s already come and gone!
Hoping to make this spring break thing an annual tradition. Last year, it was Hawaii. This year, Arizona. Where will next year lead us?!
