It’s been years since I’ve done a post like this, but considering the circumstances of our world right now and because I’m avoiding all things portfolio-related at the current moment, I’d figure I’d jump back onto this monthly “lately” post I used to participate in.
I’m currently lying somewhat-horizontal in bed. I just polished off some Belvita crackers and I’ve probably got crumbs sprinkled all around me.
I’ve resorted to keeping snacks by my bed because when you’re nearly 39 weeks pregnant, you occasionally wake up with the munchies.
Anyway, we’ve mostly been cooped up inside because of the COVID-related shelter-in-place. Which has been a challenge in many ways, but it’s also given us time to mentally and physically prepare for baby. That’s mostly what we’ve been up to over here, but here are a few other things. (And if you feel so inclined, feel free to play along in the comments and share a few things you’ve been up to lately!). Lately I’ve been…
Reading
I’ve been reading non-stop. I just started this book and already know that I’m going to be referencing it for many years to come.
But, in general, I’ve been devouring books since there isn’t much else to be doing right now. I also started and finished Little Fires Everywhere in one day and absolutely loved it. And now I want to start watching the Hulu series!
Watching
A few people have recommended I watch this and I started watching, purely entertained by the plot and the back-and-forth-sassiness. Now, on the fourth season, I’m so deeply invested in the characters and I love it so much. It’s also fun that the “Ew, David” memes floating around the Internet now make so much sense to me.
Eating
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you already know that homemade chicken burgers are my lifeline right now. Maybe it’s a late third trimester pregnancy craving. But it’s ALL I want for lunch these days and I’m just letting it happen. This quarantine life has made it so that we’re eating 99% of our meals at home these days and I’m absolutely not disappointed about it because chicken burgers.
Zooming
People joke that Zoom, the video conferencing company, is behind the coronavirus because everyone has now resorted to Zooming one another to make it through this social distancing period.
My entire newsfeed has been filled with pictures that resemble the Brady Brunch. Everyone’s faces in little rectangles. People happy-houring over Zoom. People yoga-ing over Zoom. And I’m no different. Last night, we held Women’s Circle over Zoom and it was 2 hours of pure joy. Getting to see these faces after so long and checking in with one another reminds me that we can still stay connected even though we’re all confined to our respective homes.
Playing
Speaking of Zoom, the cousins had a Game Night on Zoom two nights ago and it was my first time playing on Jackbox and, despite my hesitation with online games, this was s-o much fun. It also helped that the sisters and brothers and nieces and nephew are such fun company. I hope we can make this a weekly tradition because it brought so much joy to our week! (Also, can you see my drawing of myself? Am I an artist or what?)
Growing
But, mostly, what I’ve been doing lately is growing. This little boy seems real content and comfortable in there and, since we’re mostly on house arrest and I can lay down whenever I want to, I feel pretty okay with him cookin’ in there for as long as he needs.
He’s due in 12 days and, hopefully, things will calm down by then. Who knows? All things COVID related are changing constantly and I don’t know if it’s productive for me to sit and worry about all the things that could possibly go wrong.
So, I’m growing, we’re feeling good and we’re looking forward to welcoming this little kicker into our world. I know that he will, most definitely, be the best thing that comes out of 2020.
Question of the Day:
- What are you reading lately?
- What are you watching lately?
- How are you occupying your time these days?

Awww I loved this and your infectious positivity. I need more of this because we’re due around the same time (my c section is scheduled for 4/10) and I’m just a total ball of nerves and anxiety which I realize is no good to anyone, but especially not for baby. You look radiant: and I’m glad you are eating well and taking care of self. Sending much love to you in the weeks ahead, momma!!

I’m also reading a lot! Have read several books during this quarantine: Magpie Murders, The Nightingale, and Hidden Girl to name a few. Little Fires Everywhere is on my to-read list so that I can watch the series!
I am on season 3 of Schitt’s Creek and LOVE IT!!! Just started watching last week and I’m addicted. Haha!
Thank you for sharing and enjoy some relaxation!! Congratulations on soon-to-be little boy! 🙂

Aw, you look great, and I hope that all goes wonderfully when baby boy arrives. I love the sound of that book – How to Raise a Reader! And I’m watching Schitt’s Creek too and loving it. I’m one episode into the second season. I’m not the greatest binge watcher, so watching the show should last me a tiny bit, but we’ll see. The episodes go so quick!!!

I keep snacks by my bed, but I don’t have the excuse of pregnancy. I’m just hungry. LOL. I have not seen Schitt’s Creek yet but everyone keeps telling me I need to watch it, so I guess I’ll get on that while I’m trapped at home. I hope you have a good April!
