Good morning! I’m still adjusting to the dark mornings over here, but I don’t mind as much because it’s light out for a few hours after I leave work. And I LOVE that.
I have somehow managed to get up relatively early – yesterday and today – to have some solo time before jumping into the day. For blogging, meditating, The Daily, and – this morning – the gym!
If you’re new around here, I used to do a weekly, “Things I’m Loving” post. But, since cutting down on blogging, I’ve kept it to a monthly “Lately” post. Not much changes in my life from week to week, but I still like to have a record of all the things going on throughout the year. (Though I’m pretty sure I forgot to do a ‘February Lately’ post. I blame the fact that it’s a short month).
Anyway, before heading off to the gym, I thought I’d come on here and share a few things that have been going on lately. As always, share what’s going on in your world below. It’s always fun connecting with people in this space.
Lately, I’ve been….
Reading
Just finished this quick read a few weeks ago. I loved Liane Moriarty’s, “Big Little Lies,” so when I saw that another blogger was leading a book club with this book, I jumped on board. There are so many twists and turns in the plot. It’s pretty darn entertaining. I bought a used copy on Amazon but it’s in pretty good condition, so if somebody wants my copy for free, I’d be happy to send it your way. Just shoot me a message with your mailing address!
I’m also reading this book on the Kindle. And I’ve got a hard copy of Bad Food Bible that I read before bed. (Though I’m pretty slow getting through that one because once my head hits the pillow, it’s only a matter of time ’til I’m out).
Eating
So. Much. Good. Food. Ankur and I spent a few days in New York this past week and we took advantage of all the yummy food options. I’m actually feeling a little icky as a result of all the indulging. But, when we leave our small town and the possibilities are endless, I’m like a kid in a candy store. Only I’m a 31 year old adult. And the candy store is a huge city filled with thousands of restaurants – all of which sound DELICIOUS. A few hours after we landed, my cousin took us to get kebabs. And, I sh*t you not, tears fell from my eyeballs because they were so, SO good.
Watching
Ankur and I saw Black Panther a few weeks ago. I was just going along with it because I had lost a bet to him earlier that week and his prize was being able to choose two movies that I would have to watch with him. I wouldn’t actually CHOOSE to watch an Avengers movie. But I promised I’d go. I had NO idea that I was about to witness something so magical and life-changing. With woman warriors. And so relevant to our modern day political climate.
Favorite line from the movie:
“Wakanda will no longer watch from the shadows. We can not. We must not. We will work to be an example of how we, as brothers and sisters on this earth, should treat each other. Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: More connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis, the wise build bridges while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another, as if we were one single tribe.”
Listening
I just started listening to this podcast and I’m loving it. What can I say? I’m an NPR junkie. I cant help it. (Though I’m still very much loving The Daily and Yoga Girl and Super Soul Sunday).
Brunching
Our favorite taco shop in Knoxville. Well, technically it’s in Alcoa. Chapulines!
It’s, hands down, the best Mexican food we’ve found in the area. And it’s our go-to place to stop and get food on our way back from the airport.
Loving
There’s a hot yoga studio in Knoxville that I’ve been going to recently (or, at least whenever I’m out there for other things). I have never really been “good” at yoga before. Or, I guess, I’ve never been consistent with a practice. But this place just makes me want to keep coming back. Click here to read my Facebook post about why it was so special for me the last time I was there.
Singing
Hamilton – on repeat! I’m still on such a high. Sister got us tickets to see Hamilton in NY. And, even though we had already seen it in Chicago, there’s nothing like watching Hamilton IN MANHATTAN. And we were SO CLOSE to the stage that I could see the SPIT fly out of their mouth as they were singing. It was fabulous. Spit and all.
Thanking
Thankful for my beautiful family that makes me laugh and cry and smile and scream. So many emotions – bundled up into one huge clan. And I love every bit of it. (Also, shout out to my baby brother who kicks butt at this whole medicine thing and just matched for residency and is on his way to becoming a DOCTOR. Yes, my little brother. A doc. Proud is an understatement).
Question of the Day:
- What are you reading lately?
- What are you listening to lately?
- What’s going on in your world?

Congrats to your brother on becoming a doctor! I’m SO jealous you saw Hamilton in New York. Granted, I haven’t seen it anywhere, but IN New York would be amazing. That’s great you are enjoying hot yoga. I’ve tried just the regular yoga and I like it, but I’m not that great at it haha

Hamilton is on my wish list! It’s coming to MN next year but getting tickets are going to be next to impossible unless you were a season ticket holder for a specific theatre. Oh well. I can dream! Your trip sounds amazing though!

Yum! I want all the food! I also love Liane Morierty. The twists and turns and secrets are the best. I just finished reading All the Light you cannot see. It was a very good book, but it took me a long time to read. I really had to concentrate, and it’s hard to do in a house of boys! I really, really want to see Hamilton. I finally saw The Greatest Showman, so that’s the soundtrack I’m listening to right now.

All those food pics make me hungry! I wish I could say I’m reading something besides children’s books at the moment…but one day! I have heard Black Panther is awesome!

So jealous on the Hamilton front! My middle schooler is OBSESSED but we are highly unlikely to be getting tickets anytime soon. It’s actually coming to Tampa next year but the way they’re doing tickets (season ticket holders first then on down) I doubt there will be any option in the range of our budget.

Congratulations to your brother!
The food pics look delicious 🙂
I’ve done pilates over the years but someone suggested today that I try yoga instead.
