Nearly three years ago, I started Eat Teach Blog with the intent to use this space to document my adventures, share stories of my classroom experiences, and show off my kitchen mishaps masterpieces.
I remember exactly where I was sitting when I set up my WordPress account (sprawled on the floor of my living room). I remember carefully picking out a picture for my “About Me” section – it needed to be equal parts professional and FUN.
Between that day three years ago when I clicked “Publish” for the very first time and today, this space has become so much more than I ever imagined.
Through this blog, I’ve made friends, expanded my personal learning network, and had a place to reflect on both challenging moments and happy ones.
And one of the things that I love most about this blog is that I get the opportunity to “visit” these moments of the past.
For example, two years ago to the day, I wrote this post about being more present, more aware, more observant.
That was such a special day and it’s really helped me view even the most mundane activities as meaningful experiences in my life. Two years later, I frequent that Starbucks almost daily and, every time I pull into my parking spot, my mind goes back to that morning two years ago.
I’m so grateful for this “journal” of mine because it allows me to time travel. It allows me to hold on to some of those memories with a little more clarity.
In her book, “Yes, Please,” Amy Poehler shares her own secret about time travel: “You can control time. You can stop it or stretch it or loop it around. You can travel back and forth by living in the moment and paying attention. Time can be your bitch if you just let go of the ‘next’ and the ‘before.'”
So, here’s to more memories.
Here’s to more awareness and presence.
Here’s to making time my bitch.
