Little Acts of Big Love
A few days ago, I went to pick Ishu up from school.
They were about to transition to another classroom so they could merge groups and let his main teacher head home for the day.
This happens around the same time every afternoon.
Usually, by then, one of his good friends has already been picked up. But that day, when the class lined up to transition, his friend started to get really worried. He was anxious that his mom wouldn’t know where to find him. He was stressed that he wasn’t picked up yet. He just, y’know, missed his mom.
Ishu was outside the classroom changing his shoes and packing up his things while all of this was unfolding inside. When the class lined up, he noticed his friend standing there with silent tears running down his face.
His teacher explained what was going on and asked him if he wanted to comfort his friend. Ishaan looked up at me, and I gave him a little nod.
He immediately ran over and wrapped his friend in the biggest hug.
And, oh my heart.
I just love this love he has.
I hope he never loses it. I hope he never feels embarrassed or shy to comfort a friend in front of other people. I hope he always throws his arms wide open to embrace another person he cares about.
Watching him in that moment made me feel so proud to be his mama. I feel so so lucky to witness these sweet small acts of kindness every day. He really is such a loving, gentle kid. And I swear I learn something from him every single day.
