Good morning! Hawaii time, of course. It’s crazy to me that we are six hours behind the east coast. We just started our day and New York is over there eating lunch.
We’ve got a hike on the agenda today. And possibly going to take Ishu to the beach right by our rental.
We had a great day yesterday. Initially, when we checked the weather for Lahaina, it looked like it was supposed to rain the entire time we were here. But, now, it’s looking all clear for the rest of the week!
Yesterday, we went to Lahaina Animal Farm. It seemed like a cool experience that would be fun for Ishu, but it ended up being way more fun than I anticipated. For all of us. (Mostly my papa who almost snuck outta the place with this bunny in his bag).
It seemed like it wasn’t the tour guide’s first time being moo-ed over while she was giving instructions. Ha. She didn’t appear to be bothered by all the distractions brought on by the kids. (By kids, I mostly mean MY kid).
Ishu was beyond excited and would sometimes wander away from the animal we were currently visiting to the next one. And it didn’t seem to be a problem. It was all pretty contained. And it definitely helped that there were only two other small families in our group.
We got to walk in and feed all the animals carrots or grains. From goats to cows to pigs to peacocks! At one point, my mom’s cell phone went off and the peacocks all responded with high-pitched yells. As if to say, “HELLO, CELL PHONES OFF PLEASE!”
Halfway through the tour, we paused to wash our hands and eat a small snack of animal crackers and water. Ishu was enamored by the outdoor sink. All he wanted was to sit there and play with the water the rest of the time. But we managed to pull him away when it was time to move on.
The guide led us toward another area where she had set up a mini Easter egg hunt for the kids. Ishu quickly found two eggs and we watched as he shook them like little maracas. Unexcited about the candy inside, of course. Way more excited about opening and closing the plastic eggs.
After the Easter egg hunt, the guide passed out little nets to all the kids. They used their nets to try to scoop up tadpoles and fish from the pond. Ishu has been loving the book, Ten Tiny Tadpoles, and it was really exciting for ME to see him make the connection between book and real life.
By the end of the 90-minute tour, I was certain that we made a great choice in making this reservation. We all learned a lot and it was so much fun for the two kids of the family (the 2-year old and the 69-year old).
Within minutes after getting back in the car, Ishu passed out. And we made our way to Fish Market Maui. Now I’m not a fan of seafood in any way, shape, or form, but figured everyone else should have an authentic experience. And it was a slam dunk.
I’m definitely over here tootin’ my own horn for all the research I did before we got here. Everyone seemed to really enjoy lunch. And it was made even more enjoyable by the little sleeper in the stroller who gave us a break from chasing after him.
After lunch, we all went home to rest for a bit before heading out again.
Per usual, our plans were made with Ishu in mind. So, our afternoon adventure landed us at a local playground right along the coast.
After some swinging and sliding, we all walked the half mile over to the food truck park that Ankur and I went to the night before. We were only planning to get a snack, but it all smelled so good that we ended up eating dinner there again.
Ishu got a “straw-bebe lemonade” and was eager to share with his grandparents. Among all the people at the food truck park, he managed to track down his Nanu and Nani and Dadi and Babaji and lift the cup up to give them each a sip of his drink. Sweet little boy. No matter how much he loves a certain food or drink, he’s always so willing to share.
He was beyond ready to pass out by the time we got home.
And, honestly, so was I.
I can’t remember which one of us fell asleep first, but we were both OUT pretty quickly. A combination of the time change and all the adventuring!
It was a great first day in Maui and I’m looking forward to the rest of the week with the fam!
