Lately, I’ve been spending most of my days parked right here.
I’m on Book #4 this week and I am LOVING them all. So far, I’ve read:
Everything I Never Told You
Eleanor & Park
Big Little Lies
And now I’m starting: Walk Me Home
Up next are: Gone Girl and Unbroken
I’ve got a lot of reading to keep me quite busy for the rest of winter break.
I did take a short break yesterday afternoon to go to the gym and pick up lunch with Sister.
Subway for Nani
Jersey Mikes for Sister, Mama, and ME! (Yes, we went to both spots to satisfy the cravings of all!)
My dad really wanted to go see this new Bollywood movie, PK. We were planning to go on Christmas day, but when we got to the theatre, all tickets were sold out. We tried our luck again yesterday and were successful.
Sister, Papa, and I picked up some snacks and sandwiches from Sprouts in the same shopping complex and went to meet Mama and Nani inside the theatre. I brought my Kindle along because I was NOT excited about the movie. I looked up the plot summary earlier in the day and was unimpressed. A BOLLYWOOD movie about an ALIEN who lost his remote to go back to his planet? Sounds pretty ridiculous…
It ended up being one of the most interesting movies I’ve ever seen.
It’s a comedy about an alien, PK (Aamir Khan), who touches down on planet Earth and views our society from an extraterrestrial perspective. While he roams about Delhi looking for his lost remote, he becomes confused by India’s religions and all the different traditions.
Through his character, we see religious practices being questioned, like with the self-proclaimed Guru or “pundit” that uses superstition to cheat or deceive people.
In one of the scenes, the “pundit” gives advice to a man who asks how he can support his paralyzed wife. The “pundit” responds with, “Take a long journey to a temple in the Himalayas. A journey that will take 6 days. Pray there and then your problem will be solved.”
PK jumps in and says something along the lines of: “If God is our father, what father would send their son on a long journey when they are in trouble? Wouldn’t a father want to solve their child’s problem immediately? Why would you send your son to another house of worship to ask the same question that he has asked here?”
Such simple, but extremely thought-provoking questions make this movie an ABSOLUTE must-see. Whether you’re into Bollywood or not. Just make sure the subtitles are on for you non-Hindi speakers!
We spent the remainder of the night discussing the movie. The Kindle needed a little break from me anyway! 😉
