Around 4:30PM each day, I have a happy hour.
Now, I’m not talking about boozin’ it up or getting some 1/2 off appetizers.
I’m talking about the hour when my work day slowly comes to an end. The kids are dismissed between 4:00-4:15 and things are hectic and crazy but, all of a sudden, at 4:30, things start to calm down.
It is during this time that I am able to recall certain events and conversations that happened during the day, process the next steps that need to be done on my end, reflect on the day’s good/bad/ugly. It is also during this time that I am reminded why I am here.
Today was frustrating.
Testing made the kids loopy and antsy. Testing made ME loopy and antsy. Our schedules were off and we weren’t following normal routines/procedures. There were a few moments throughout the day where I felt agitated and ANGRY.
And then 4:30 hit.
Most of the kids had been dismissed, except for the YMCA kiddos. One of my favorites (shhhh, you’re not supposed to have favorites!) is in the YMCA, and EVERY day, without fail, he spots me from across the Launch area, runs over while screaming my name, and wraps his teeny arms around me.
And it is that moment – that EXACT MOMENT – every single day that reminds me why I am here.
My days will always be hectic.
And, in this field of constant collaboration and interaction, people will undoubtedly bug the crap out of me.
But at 4:30PM every day, when my little one is hugging me so tight with another successful day under his belt, I am reminded why I am here. I remember, once again, that it is all for my kids.

What a sweet post! I’d be a marketer just like I am. But I’d like to either be working for Disney or consulting full time. haha

That’s amazing that you looped with them! I’m sure it must be hard, but you got another little cute kid that takes priority right now! 😉

I used to teach middle & high schoolers and I loved teaching, even with the hard moments. Of all it, i hated the parents the most ( the ones that called their kids cell phones, the ones that could care less, and the ones that emailed me EVERY DAY asking for updates)… I feel like things have changed so much since I was in HS.

It takes such a special person to be a teacher- so glad you are finding meaningful moments in your days. It can be a thankless job sometimes, but it’s such an important one!

It definitely takes a special person to be a teacher. Thank you for doing what you do.
If I could do anything, I think I would become a personal trainer. Too bad the pay is better in construction engineering!

Yay for teaching! I have taught for the past eight years but took this year off after having my baby and just resigned. I loved it up until the last few years. Unfortunately the school I was at made it difficult to continue to enjoy it but now that my baby is here I love being here with her even more. I love fitness and that is partially what I am doing now as I stay-at-home-ish. I would really love to be able to open a student for children’s and adult fitness. For now, I will be happy with what I am doing. Happy Teacher Week! 🙂

Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite
reason appeared to be on the web the easiest thing to be aware of.
I say to you, I definitely get irked while people consider
worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top
and defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal.
Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
