Before DISH Network was a thing and all the grandparents could watch all the Indian soap operas and Indian Idol their heart desired, my Nanu and Nani had a handful of western TV shows they watched when they first moved to America.
The Young and the Restless. The Price is Right. Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud.
Jeopardy was a show more for Nanu. Nani watched too. But, now, the pace at which they speak and the way they quickly move from question to question…it’s all too fast for Nani.
But, still, every time I come home, she has a few episodes taped.
She especially likes to watch it when both Ankur and I are there.
Because when Ankur and I watch it, we make it a little bit of a competition. So, instead of watching Jeopardy, she’s watching us.
And, because it moves so fast, she has us raise our hand high up in the air when one of us gets the answer correct. So she can see it and tally in her mind who the ultimate winner is in the end.
It makes it interactive for her too.
And I love it.
Sometimes we’ll watch it without Ankur. And she still wants me to raise my hand in the air so she doesn’t have to pause and ask if I got it right.
I think she gets real impressed when I get it right. Little does she know that the category I get the MOST questions right is any category related to food or alcohol. HA.
Whatever.
I love the way we’ve altered the game to make it more interactive and enjoyable for us.
And, many years from now, long after my Nani is gone, I’ll watch Jeopardy and remember these days. Where we were sitting on opposite sides of the bed, my hand shooting up in the air and her smiling at me, nodding in approval. Because I knew that vodka was the liquor used in a cosmopolitan.
Ha.
I love my Nani and I love our Jeopardy days. The most, most, most.

Awwwwww Divya ❤️❤️❤️ This post is so sweet. I also love that you’ve created a game out of watching jeopardy together as a family. I’ve always loved it, too. Xoxo
