Oh my goodness.
I am having a major weekend hangover. I know this because it’s Tuesday morning and I’m still not over it.
Not a tequila hangover.
More like the kind of hangover you face when you’ve just had one of the greatest weekends of your life and you have to get right back to reality. And reality just isn’t as fun.
This past weekend, 17 wonderful people made their way over to Lake Tahoe to celebrate the bride-to-be at her bachelorette party.
Our car didn’t get in until 10PM and we were one of the first to arrive. People started trickling in slowly and there were some gifts upon their arrival.
What better way to kick off Jen’s bachelorette than some tequila and lime?
A flower-crown station was set up on the dining room table and between that, the tequila, and the Twerkshop, we were up until the wee hours of the night.
It’s pretty unlike us to be up until 3 or 4 in the morning. But people were just way too excited to converse and play games all night. It felt like a college retreat all over again. Long car ride. Customized CD with fun travel tunes. Ice breakers to get to know everyone a little more intimately. It was perfect.
On Saturday, we spent most of the day at Camp Richardson.
We claimed an open spot near the water and then parked ourselves there for the remainder of the day. Some people decided to go bike riding. Others went to the restaurant for food and live music. And others rented a paddle boat.
With a group that large, it’d be hard to get everyone to do the same activity at the same time without there being some level of stress. This way, people got to do what they wanted to do with a central home to return to when they were done with their preferred activities.
It was much more relaxed that way and everyone seemed to be pretty happy with it.
It also meant that some of us could sneak away to indulge in Oreo milkshakes and french fries.
Around 5ish, we all made it home to shower and get ready for the night’s festivities. This included some twerk lessons. Obviously.
Just in case the group twerking sessions weren’t enough to get us up and moving, Becky planned a hilarious game in which we were divided up in teams to create lingerie using only streamers and balloons.
Team 2 and Team 3 catered to Jen’s current twerk obsession by using the balloons to form a large butt. I snapped some pictures and sent them to Juan to vote. He voted Andrea as the winner by texting back, “Blue butt cheeks.”
After the lingerie was presented and voted on, we sat down for a calmer, but equally hilarious game. The Newlywed Game. It’s typical to have this game at bridal showers or bachelorette parties but Becky stepped it up a notch by adding in a video component.
It was set up as a slideshow with a written question on one slide and a corresponding video on the second slide (in which Juan answers the question). The question was presented alone first so that Jen had the chance to guess what Juan’s response would be.
Things got a little crazier than expected.
Inappropriate questions + Jagermeister + Moscow mules = a fun bride rolling around on the carpet.
There were so many hilarious moments – both on our end (watching Jen react to everything that Juan said) and on Juan’s end (watching him ponder each question so thoughtfully). It made me feel so excited for their upcoming wedding because these two are so perfectly made for each other. (It also made me exceptionally excited to get some brie and Fig jam from Trader Joes.)
Before we took off for the casinos, we all participated in a pretty emotional activity. We sat down in a circle and took turns sharing our love stories about the bride. How we met her and when we knew we loved her. Everyone had such fun stories to share and it made me realize just how special this girl is. She’s touched everyone’s lives without even realizing it. Needless to say, everyone’s makeup was ruined by the end of it all.
But we just re-applied and re-contoured, piled in Uber cars and went out to dance with Arty the Party at Harrah’s.
Arty was quite the party.
We were expecting a nightclub-esque type place. But Arty the Party just set up shop right in the heart of the casino. Dance party in the MIDDLE of the casino. It was pretty epic. I don’t remember the last time I had so much fun at 2:00 in the morning.
Emotional, heartfelt conversations standing at the bar. Goddess cards being picked before heading to the dance floor. Watching the bride dance to Justin Bieber. Requesting songs only to have them be played 10 seconds later. Meeting 8 other bachelorette parties and being proudest of our bride. Twerking on the side of the road and before we stepped out of the taxi. Watching Andrea fall asleep, but still bob her head to Michael Jackson. And the bride sweeping people off the dance floor so she could get down on all fours to show off her dance moves.
It was easily one of the best nights of our lives.
Ever.
Despite the fact that we partied all night, we woke up fairly early to get packing. Coffee was definitely needed at this point so we stopped at Rude Bagels down the street. We were going to spend a few minutes at the lake before walking back to the house to start cleaning up when we spontaneously decided to rent a surrey and ride around the streets.
We rode the surrey back to the house and everyone got a turn riding it around while others stayed in to pack up their stuff.
After leaving the house, we went and got bagels before we had to say our goodbyes.
But saying goodbye wasn’t too challenging because we will all be reunited at Jen’s bridal shower this weekend. And the wedding in July.
And probably a Bachelorette Reunion in a few months.
With Arty the Party in Tahoe.
Thank you to Jen’s hens. For one of the best, best, best weekends.
Love you, Jen! So proud to know you and love you with all of our insides.
