Finally sitting down to write this! I wanted to post this yesterday, but this mama had a little TOO much fun and needed yesterday to fully recover. Thank goodness there was a house of people who were so excited to spend so much time with Ishu so I could stay in bed until 10am on Sunday. What a luxury.
We’re a little off schedule now from a weekend filled with partying. He just went down for his first nap at 11:30am. It’ll probably take us a while to get back to a routine, but it was definitely worth it. He had so much fun celebrating his birthday with the family.
Ankur and I are pretty low key people and were perfectly content with our small birthday party with the grandparents. But it’s hard to deny grandparents a party for their very first grandbaby.
So we had a small, intimate backyard shindig in Newport Beach on Saturday. And I’m so glad we ended up doing it. It was so fun for us to see how social our little guy was despite the fact that we’ve been isolated from people all year long.
He hasn’t been around this many people before, so we weren’t sure how it would go down. But he was going up to everyone, walking around the party like he owned the place (I mean, he does), and seemed like such a party animal.
His Masi ordered Llama Llama decorations.
And the part that *I* was most excited about was the smash cake. His Masi also ordered this BEAUTIFUL smash cake customized just for him. What a lucky kid. I was hoping he’d dive into it headfirst.
He didn’t, however, dive into the cake as I predicted. The Llama Llama on top was Ishu’s favorite part. He held Llama in one hand. And then scraped off the icing and kept trying to feed people with his other hand.
I don’t know who taught him how to share food like this. Definitely not his mama.
We’ve got a Google Photo album of hundreds of pictures and videos from his birthday party. I couldn’t share them all here, but I’m so happy we have these beautiful memories to return to as he gets older.
He was born in a pandemic. Celebrated his first birthday in a pandemic. And you would never even know it because our little bubble has spoiled him rotten and made him feel the love of thousands of people.
So grateful for this beautiful weekend!
