It was quite the eventful day yesterday in terms of getting shit done.
Maybe that’s what happens when I get up for the day at 1:45am.
I kid.
I wasn’t productive until I had my first cup of coffee. At 9am.
After I had my cup of fuel and we said bye to Ankur, Ishu and I went for a walk. He wakes up every day and says, “burrrrr,” which I normally interpret as “birds.” But, lately, I think it could also be balloons.
But, even with balloons in hand, he kept looking out the window saying “bur, bur, bur.” So we went bird watching.
I was laughing with my sister on the phone yesterday. Telling her our favorite hangout is the Walmart parking lot because there’s so much trash on the ground. So, naturally, that’s where the birds gravitate and that’s where Ishu wants to be.
When we got home, he went down for his first nap and I hopped on Zoom with a potential daycare. The sweet lady answered all my questions and it seems like a good place, but I couldn’t help but feel so weepy. Thinking about all those hours I’ll be spending away from him! How do parents do this?! I was half tempted to ask her if she was hiring because I’mma looking!
Ha.
Just kidding. I need to put that school psych license to use. I mean, at least once, y’know?
After we were done chatting, he was still sleeping. So I managed to apply to two jobs. And update my life on LinkedIn. Though I don’t really use it. But it feels like the professional thing to do. TO BROADLY ANNOUNCE, “HEY I’M LOOKING, HIRE ME!”
When he woke up, he ate some banana and avocado.
While I made some stuff for dinner.
We always have leftover rice when we order Thai food. And we had some leftover from Ishu’s birthday. So, I threw together rice + broccoli slaw + zucchini + eggs + TJ’s Soyaki. So quick and easy. And the baby loved it too.
Then we went for another walk while Ankur made his way home.
He left work early today so he could make it back for Ishaan’s 12-month appointment with the doctor. COVID has made it so that, for all his doctor appointments, only one parent can go. And, fortunately, Ankur’s schedule Is a little lax this month, so he offered to be the one to go in and handle the shots.
I sat in the car and kept fluctuating between thinking how grateful I was to NOT be in there to hear Ishu’s piercing screams and how I wish I COULD be in there to hug him while he screamed.
And scream he did. Apparently.
And it wasn’t just because of the shots. Ankur said he started screaming the minute he undressed him to put him on the scale. Apparently after Ankur picked him up after they weighed him, he peed all over Ankur’s shirt. Poor baby.
We kinda think he’s started to associate the doctor’s office as the place he goes to get shots. He is not a happy camper in there.
Fortunately, the tears didn’t last and we got to cheer him up with some Yogurtland.
Cookies and cream flavor!
Then we got home, FB Portaled the grandparents, played with the balloons a bit, and then hopped in the bath. His happy place.
He fell asleep almost immediately after.
Sweet baby.
Fortunately we have a longer stretch of time in between now and his next set of shots. Which will be in Chicago! Excited for the move. Not excited to leave this pediatrician that we love.
Here’s hoping for another day of productivity during nap times!
Hope you all have a good hump day!

I swear, the first year is the hardest, and then everything feels like you’re in a groove. <3

Oh sweet little boy. How did he do following the shots? Mila had her chicken pox vax and it’s been over a week and I think she’s still a little off from it (hard to tell, she’s also teething, poor thing). I love that you treated him to some froyo!!
OMG you are moving to Chicago?! maybe I read this and forgot (OMG girl. My brain lol). That’s so exciting!
