Yesterday, Ishu and I went to the public library for the first time. It’s about a 2-mile walk from our apartment, so we left in the early morning – after we said bye to Ankur – and got there about 20 minutes before it opened.
Overeager, I suppose.
The second floor is basically the children’s library. And it is AMAZING.
There’s a whole section dedicated to board books. I don’t think Ishu’s ever seen that many books in one place before. (This is not only his first visit to the Chicago Public Library, but his first visit to any library or any bookstore).
They had a mini food truck that kids could play in, so Ishu and I brought some books into there and read there for a few minutes. Then we took a stack of books and sat on one of the mini tables.
He laughed and he laughed and he laughed.
And I couldn’t tell if it was cause I was roar-ing like a dinosaur or because it was funny to see me in a teeny tiny chair. Either way, he was a happy little camper.
We left after about an hour.
Some day, I can imagine us sitting in the library for hours and hours.
But, right now, at this phase in his life, he’s more interested in pulling all the books from the shelf and attempting to climb into every chair.
Either way, I’m so glad we went. We didn’t end up getting a library card, but I think on the next trip – if Ankur joins us – I will get one then!
He fell asleep almost immediately after leaving the library, so I popped in to DSW and got me two new pairs of shoes. (Interesting fact: I only brought TWO pairs of shoes with us to Chicago. My sneakers and my flip-flops).
I haven’t had a reason to put on other types of shoes. And, I’m pretty sure my shoe size went up half a size after having Ishu. So, even if I wanted to bring my other pairs, not quite sure they’d fit.
And now that I’m working from home this year, do I really need anything?! Probs not. But I bought two pairs. Skechers. Because I’m all about that functional lifestyle.
Eventually, the city sounds woke him up again. So we popped into a Mediterranean place and I ordered us a bowl to share. Of course, Ishu ate none of the bowl and ALL of the ketchup packets.
He loves hummus and cucumbers and tomatoes. But, I guess, he loves ketchup packets more.
And then, since he was awake, we stopped by Lake Shore East park since it was on the way home. This one is a little further from us (about a mile), but it has a splash pad, so I think he likes it best.
On our way out, Ishu got distracted by a dog three times his size. Maybe four. No joke.
I couldn’t tell if he was more interested in the dog or the dog’s tennis ball. But, either way, we played with the dog for a bit.
He loves dogs so much. And, I don’t know how he knows to do this, but he puts his hand out, palm facing up, before he pets the dog. So the dogs can smell/lick him FIRST. And, maybe he’s just seen us do it and he’s figured it out, or maybe it’s his natural instinct, but this kid is definitely a dog kid. And I guess I’m definitely going to be a dog mom in the future. There’s no denying it at this point. He’s obsessed.
When we got home, he ate some other foods since there was only ketchup in his belly at this point. And then he took a 3-HOUR nap! Tired kid.
Now, it’s FRIDAY! And we’ve got a busy, busy day over here. Sunshine, music, sensory stuff. The works.
Happy Friday to you all and see you back on Monday!
