So yesterday I decided to opt for a different workout. I was planning on going for a run outside – it was a gorgeous day. Sunny but slightly rainy – perfect for a jog around the neighborhood. But Jeej (brother-in-law) convinced me to do an Insanity workout with him. We set up the Macbook outside on a table and started hopping/jumping/lunging/squatting around the backyard. After 15 minutes, I was SWEATING. Turns out, that’s just the warm-up.
I’ve heard stories about Insanity – but I guess I had to experience the insanity (pun intended) myself. That. Was. Hard. And I was terrible at it. I had to stop several times throughout the workout to catch my breath. Yet even with the breaks, I felt like I got a great workout. My heart rate was escalating and slowing down throughout the entire 40-minute workout. I was using muscles I haven’t used in a long time. And the best part was that I didn’t need any equipment whatsoever. Just me and this video – face to face. I definitely have to keep reminding myself that changing up workouts from time to time is a good thing for my body – and for my own personal interest. Exercise becomes a lot more fun when it’s not simply a monotonous routine.
Then, to celebrate our workout, we went out to a local restaurant for margaritas. We walked the mile or so to the restaurant (seriously obsessed with this New York walking thing) and ordered a pitcher of their strawberry margaritas:
We ordered a few appetizers, but didn’t want to eat dinner out (that’s one plus about California – the Mexican food is SO much better!)
Great workout, great company, GREAT margaritas!!!! Cheers!!
