We had a fun, spontaneous evening yesterday with the Potter kiddos. Ishu was going to join Max's soccer class this week for "Bring a Buddy" day. And Riyu was going to join Emmie's. But, because of the crazy weather, they canceled classes. And, because we are two moms who really like when our kids are TIRED, we decided to pack them up and head to the trampoline park. Sometimes these unplanned things come together better than if we actually planned it. I mean, you never know when a kid's gonna be sick....

Sometimes I pick him up from school and he’ll st

Sometimes I pick him up from school and he’ll stand there. He’ll lean his body against the wall, rolling down the hallway. I’ll remind him to switch out his shoes and put on his coat and he’ll stare at me and then get distracted by something else.

I’ll prompt him again. I’ll point to the shoes in case my verbal prompts are just too much for him after a long day of school.

He’s not intentionally being defiant. He’s tired. He’s slow. He’s moving at the pace that feels good for him.

And sometimes it can be MADDENING.

“Shoes! Shoes! Okay, yeah remember the shoes? Okay great. You took the shoes off. Now put the other shoes on. Hello? SHOES?!?!?!?”

I feel like a broken record player some days.

He’s a fast little guy. The way this kid runs is unlike anything I’ve seen. But he also likes to take his time with things.

He is not a kid that’s focused on the destination.

He is one hundred percent about the journey.

And, yes, when we’re limited by time constraints, it can drive mama crazy.

But when time is ours to play with?

My gosh; it’s the most beautiful thing.

He finds the smallest of things that I - a person who spends so much of my time in my mind - would undoubtedly overlook.

On our walk to gymnastics the other day, he paused to study every piece of ice. And he noticed that the water droplets had frozen at the tips of the leaves.

The joy on his face. 🥹 It makes me teary to remember it. He is such a special kid and I love watching him in these moments. To remind me to get outta my head and slow down. To look around me. To take it all in. To find the beauty in the mundane.

I couldn’t pick one that I liked more than the other so now you just get to see them all. ❤️

I love this little guy so much, it’s crazy to think that there was a part of my brain 1.5 years ago that thought my heart couldn’t possibly grow to love another baby.

He is so gosh darn entertaining. He has so much to say. His squeals and smiles light up the room. He is so full of LIFE and brings so much joy to our little fam.

We love our “wee-you wee-you” (Riyu Riyu) oh so much. 😍

Morning! We're keeping Ishu home another day tod

Morning!

We're keeping Ishu home another day today. He's mostly better and hasn't had a fever since Thursday. But, because of his lack of appetite, he's pretty low energy (and, if you know my kid, you KNOW it's out of character haha).

We did a day long art project on Friday to keep us busy. He's very proud. We also made a paper plate fish. And some starfish. Which has now inspired him to add a sea creature to his wall each day. We're gonna have a whole aquarium over here eventually....
