I’m here in the Big Apple! =)
I landed around 10:45PM on Saturday – wasn’t the smoothest of plane rides, but none ever seem to be anymore. Ever since I had that horrifying experience on the way back from India (where we plummeted a couple hundred feet), planes and I aren’t the best of friends. Nothing gives me more anxiety than the thought of a flight coming up. And throughout the entire flight, my palms and the bottom of my feet are sweaty. So, I thought I’d take some Dramamine to knock me out. Turns out the non-drowsy Dramamine doesn’t work on its own. So, I ordered myself a $7 mini bottle of wine on the plane to increase drowsiness (I know, I know – not a good decision and definitely not good health-wise to mess up my system like that), but I was desperate to fall asleep. Luckily, the glass of wine worked wonders and I fell asleep……for about an hour. Until I was woken up by my neighbor cause he had to pee (why can’t people have large bladders like me?).
It ended up being okay, because he could tell I was a little scared so he tried to keep me occupied with conversation. He was a half-Indian, half-British guy from Australia. Who was traveling to NY for business. He kept my mind off the plane and the bumps and the turbulence (well, sort of. I secretly wanted to yell at him for waking me up).
But, I’m here. I’m safe. And it’s wonderful! Right when I landed, my brother-in-law was getting kebabs, so I got home and was met with some of this:
The next day, I got to see Stephen!! He (like Roxana) is in New York doing City Year. It was nice to see him again – the last time I saw him was in December. I miss him so much, but I know how happy he is in NY – figuring life out, starting a new career. He finds out today about whether he gets an interview with this service fellowship he applied for. I think he will. But crossing my fingers =)
Went out to get $9 LARGE margaritas and then met up with one of his friends to grab a drink at a hotel on the East side.
Today, woke up to the sound of rain and birds chirping! I like that combination =) Went for a walk in the rain to the subway to buy myself an Unlimited-Week Long Metro card. I’m determined to figure out this subway system. Everyone says it’s easy – we’ll see about that.
Wish me luck!
