Good morning from Moreno Valley!
We left Newport yesterday evening around 5:30. The drive usually takes no more than an hour on a Saturday, but there was a terrible, terrible accident and we didn’t end up getting home until a little after 8. I was so grumbly about it, sitting on the 91 freeway with a sleepy, cranky baby. And then we got to the scene of the accident and my heart started beating super fast and I was holding back tears. It was BAD. Probably the worst accident I’ve ever seen. I know there was at least one fatality and, by the looks of it, possibly more. But seeing that made me snap out of my shitty mood. I’m praying that everyone else was okay.
You can bet that when we got home, I kissed my sweet baby a zillion times as he was falling asleep.
And, if you’re reading this, I urge you to kiss and squeeze and love on your people today.
Before our long evening spent on the 91 freeway, we had a really wonderful day in Orange County.
We kicked off the morning extra early. The Nanis took Ishu for a walk. The husband and the dad went and played tennis. And yours truly crawled into bed with MY Nani and then wrote yesterday’s blog post. Oh, and also DoorDashed some bagels.
You know, one of these days I’m going to get back to an exercise routine.
Yesterday was not that day.
Today is probably not that day either.
Anyway, after the bagels were had and the exercise was done (theirs, not mine), Ankur and Ishu and I went to the Irvine Farmers Market. We got a half box of strawberries and Ishu got the first taste.
We also picked up some veggies and hummus. AND cold brew. Obviously. I like my cold brew with soy milk, but the farmers market folks don’t seem to care about my preferences and I had to settle for half and half. What a crock.
When we got home, we had to bathe the baby because he had strawberries smushed EVERYWHERE. Even in his ear. He’s a very festive eater.
And then it was time for his second nap of the day. And guess who managed to put him to sleep?
Yes, that’s correct. The papa. Not the mama.
Do I see a new bedtime routine in our future?
Yes, yes I do.
While the baby slept, I ran over to the grocery store to get some groceries for the week.
Ankur’s mama and papa are coming into town today and I wanted to have some staples on hand. (Though we live a hop, skip, and jump away from Walmart and Target so it wasn’t entirely necessary. I just REALLY like to take advantage of when there are other humans that have eyeballs on the baby).
When I got home, the baby was STILL sleeping. I think it helped that his papa was curled up next to him.
I was thankful he got that 2.5 hour nap in before our long drive home last night.
Even more thankful to wake up next to these two every morning.
Hug your people. Seriously. So tight.
