Good MORNING.
Ishu woke up at 2am and was restless between 2-4:30. At 4:30, I threw back the covers and gave up on sleep. And, at 4:30, he decided to sleep like a log.
So he’s over there still sleeping.
And I’m over here still waking up.
I’m real glad that I have finally learned to embrace the unpredictable sleep that is parenthood. For the first year of his life – maybe even the first 1.5 years – I tried to crack the code. Thinking that I could solve it – once and for all – and he’d be the best little sleeper there ever was.
But now I’m just flowin’ with the good days and the bad days.
Knowing that there is absolutely nothing I can do to control this little guy’s wakeups.
(But it’s no wonder that whoever ends up putting Ishu to sleep always ends up falling asleep with him. Last night was Ankur. I’m guessing tonight it’s me. Gotta get sleep where we can. Ha).
Yesterday was a nice day of relaxation for this mama.
The school district I work for wasn’t in session. But with Ishu still in school, I was able to go to an OrangeTheory class, get my nails done, and go to the dentist. All in one day.
Oh yes. And Ankur got done early, so we got a late lunch together at DocB’s. It felt nice to spend time – just the two of us – without our third wheel demanding attention from us. But, of course, after lunch, we excitedly ran across the street to Goddess and the Baker to pick up a cake pop for said third wheel. And then walked over to his school to pick him up together.
We are in what I think is the ‘honeymoon phase’ of wanting to pick up or drop off Ishu. Because of Ankur’s schedule, it’s mostly me who picks up and drops off. But any time he does get done before me and suggests that I stay home – I’m like, “NO, I WANT TO COME TOO. HOW DARE YOU PICK HIM UP WITHOUT ME.”
Maybe that’ll change.
Maybe not.
Because it’s the freaking cutest.
He runs to the door, shouting, “MAMA I’M DOING _______ (whatever it is he’s doing)” and it’s my favorite thing. Both to see him get excited to see me but also to see him being excited about whatever it is they’re doing.
Ask me again when it starts snowing. I’m sure this ‘honeymoon phase’ will wear off and I’ll be perfectly content staying at home while Ankur picks him up. Ha.
Anyway, it’s early.
I’m probably not gonna go back to sleep. But I AM going to get back in bed and cuddle this little bug and read a few chapters in my book.
Happy Tuesday!
