Just when I got all high and mighty on my clean eating horse, I encountered my friends, “Coffee” and “Wine.”
I had a really successful day of eats:
Breakfast:
Two eggs + a crap ton of veggies + topped with salsa (unpictured)
Snack:
A baby avocado + a nectarine (both unpictured)
Lunch:
Sweet potatoes + zoodles + roasted veggies + turkey + avocado
Dinner:
Greens + veggies + turkey + salsa + avocado
Pretty decent, right?
But today, around noon, one of my co-workers was making a run to Starbucks and asked if I wanted anything. Which resulted in this:
I regret nothing. Coffee makes me happy. I just counted the dash of cream as a fat for the day. Not the best source of fat. And also not the best source of happiness. But, I’m really not going to beat myself up over it.
When I got home, Beth was getting ready to go out to dinner, so I hung out with her while she was getting ready. It’s been a while since we’ve spent some time together (since I’ve been going to Monterey for the past few weekends and she’s been so busy with finals!). We somehow got to talking about our living arrangements for next year since our lease is up in August. And, we both decided that we wanted to live together next year and just renew our lease. I know it sounds silly to be ridiculously excited about this additional year together, but she’s just such a great roommate and a wonderful friend and I’ve absolutely enjoyed living with her this year (shout out to you, Davey!). The pizza + wine nights will live on!
Anyway, we toasted in honor of another year together. I had a few sips of wine (this glass is actually our super teeny glass. Should have put the big one next to it to compare!). It was equivalent to maybe 3 sips of wine? In any case, I savored the shit out of that. It took me an hour to get through those three sips. And, boy, does wine taste good when you’re not drinking it in mass quantities.
I also don’t feel particularly awful about my decision to partake in a celebratory drink three sips. If anything, it reminded me how much I value the taste and experience of wine. It had somehow, over the course of two years, become a ‘ritual’ instead of a once-in-a-while ‘experience.’ It’s like I finally regained control over my tastebuds. “Everything in moderation” has never been my motto. It’s usually an “all or nothing” deal with me. But, maybe – just maybe – after these 30 days, I’ll understand what it means to be happy with moderation.
Good night! 🙂
Questions of the Day:
- Are you an “all or nothing” person or an “everything in moderation” person?
- What were your eats for the day?

I’m pretty sure a splash of cream and a glass of wine are quite the definition of moderation. Sounds like a healthy day full of life experiences to me.

I’m pretty good with moderation except when it comes to chips and fries 🙂 If you don’t enjoy it – you won’t stick with it!

I yearn to be a “moderation” person, but with some foods {and when I am stressed} it’s “EAT ALL THE FOOD!”

I’m mostly about moderation unless I’m on vacation and almond M&Ms are around!

Moderation is basically the name of the game for me :). Except more often than not, if I’m ‘too moderate’ – whatever that means – I tend to overboard. But this post is certainly evidence of a healthy mindset!
