Happy birthday to my special mama.
Today (and always), I am thankful for you.
1) I am thankful for the moments you make me giggle and laugh uncontrollably. Like the time you talked to all the goddesses in an effort to build relationships with them through the oracle cards.
2) I am thankful for our trips to the Farmers Markets. Where you park yourself in front of a stand that hands out multiple samples and, when it’s time to go to lunch, you stare at us in disbelief and say, “What? Why are you fools hungry? I’m stuffed.”
3) I’m thankful to have a partner to travel with, to be my buddy, while Papa and Didi are miles ahead looking for the next best thing.
4) I’m thankful for my chef. For nearly 30 years. Who will cook for me. And spoonfeed me on days that I’m sick.
5) I’m thankful for my example of love and unity. You and Papa are the perfect balance. The dynamic duo. The exemplar.
6) I am thankful for the loud shrieks and squeals. The spontaneous dance parties. The enthusiasm over things both small and large. The reminder that life is worth getting excited about.
7) I’m thankful for the hikes outside and the constant reminders to stay out of the sun. Because, even when I roll my eyes at you and scream, “I KNOW!,” I’m also subconsciously grateful to have someone who cares so heavily about all the little things. Others don’t get that privilege.
8) I’m thankful for those rare moments when you tell us stories about your childhood. Like the time we went to a restaurant in Japan and you plopped yourself on the floor, stones in hand, to show us a game you used to play with your friends.
9) I’m thankful for your silliness. The times when, out of nowhere, you revert back to a child and make funny faces and noises. It reminds me that life is not that serious. And we should all just act like a train – and make choo! choo! noises – when we’re IN a train.
10) I’m thankful for a mother who selflessly gives and gives and gives. Even when it drains her. Even when this is what she looks like when she sits down for longer than 2 minutes.
It reminds me – daily – how fortunate I am to have grown up with this. This example of pure and genuine love.
Thank you for being my Mama.
I am the luckiest human because you are mine.
Happy birthday.
Love you more with each passing day.

Awwwwww….what an awesome tribute to such an awesome woman. She will forever be my NEW best friend (no matter how many more come and go) (inside joke). You forgot that she also has a lot of gods she prays to (in addition to goddesses) and the deals she makes with them. I love the way she says she is ‘scared’ of me, and then does what she wants anyway. I love the way she says she doesn’t send me sappy forwards, and then sends them anyway (shhhh! which I then delete)…I have a lot of other “I love…” but it would take a book!
