Does anyone else think it’s good luck to start a new month by having those be the first words out of your mouth when you wake up? No? Just me?
Well, it’s a new month AND a new year at that. So I’m pretty sure I’m going to be showered with ALL the luck in 2016.
Despite the new year, I plan to stick to my Friday routine. And what better way to stick to a routine than to start out with Fun Facts?
- I have spent every single New Years Eve (for my entire 29 years of existence) with my family. Board games. Onesies. Apple cider. The works.
- When we were younger, we would go to our family friend’s house down the street. Over time, as Nanu and Nani got older and would stay at home, we used to duck outta there around 11:30 to walk back home and ring in the New Year with them. We wanted to be WITH them – even if it meant we had to wake them up – when the clock struck midnight.
- Eventually, we decided to shift the “party” to our home in order to properly ring in the New Year with Nanu and Nani.
- One of my favorite NYE celebrations is when we played “Minute to Win It” type games with all the aunties and uncles. Please just imagine this. Two professional doctors, crawling on the floor, trying to move a ping pong ball from one end of the room to the other end of the room using only a straw. Or two grown adults trying to collect Lifesavers off the edge of the counter – no hands allowed – with a piece of dried spaghetti in their mouth. My stomach hurt so bad by the end of the night from laughing so hard.
- Since our family is scattered all over the United States (and in India!), our New Year wishes and calls come in waves. At 9PM, we’re on the phone/Facetiming with our New York family. At 10PM, Texas. At 11PM, I’m knocked out. And at midnight, people wake me up. It’s really just routine at this point.
- Every New Years Eve, I reflect on how the new year is going to be different. This year, as I sat watching the ball drop – surrounded by people I love the most – I hoped that this year would just bring more of the same.
Questions of the Day:
- Do you have any NY resolutions?
- How did you ring in the new year?
