Good morning!
Normally I’m super giddy about Fridays, but this particular Friday means that my week-long vacation is almost over and it’s back to work on Monday! I can’t help but be a little bummed that my Fall Break is coming to an end, but I’m trying to get over it so that I can enjoy these last few days with family!
Ankur’s parents are getting into town tonight and I’m so excited to show them our little town and our little life here. It’ll be the perfect way to close out this week!
Before I sign off for the weekend and tidy up the apartment, I’ll leave you with a few fun facts. As always, share a fun fact about you in the comments. I always love reading them!
1) For our wedding, a few friends gave us Subway gift cards. (There was a period of my life where I would eat only Subway sandwiches. This is not a joke).
After we opened up all our gifts, I loaded the gift cards onto my phone and threw out the actual cards. Big mistake. Once we reached Harrogate, I realized they don’t do the whole technology thing very well. The first time I went to the Subway, they didn’t understand me when I asked if I could pay from my phone. The second time I went, I drove through the drive-thru and they didn’t have a phone scanner near the window. The third time I tried to pay with my phone, the employee couldn’t get the barcode to load. She just kept telling me to tap my phone to the screen and it would work. (It didn’t work. I paid with credit card instead). Yesterday, I attempted it again and IT WORKED. Harrogate, Tennessee – stepping it up, my friends. We are STEPPING. it. up.
2) If I get a fountain drink, I always get 9/10 Diet Coke and 1/10 Coke.
I don’t know when I started this weird combination. But, it is much more enjoyable than 100% Diet Coke. I know I should be cutting back on the whole soda thing. But, I was celebrating the fact that my Subway gift card worked. From my phone.
3) Halloween is my least favorite holiday. I hate costumes. I dislike scary movies. The only thing I enjoy about it is the candy.
I don’t typically dress up. Last year, I threw on an adult onesie and called it a costume. But, this year, I think I’m going to invest in one of these tank tops. Festive, but not over the top. Also, the end result is wine. Or, with my luck, I’ll get some disappointed looks and angry glares from all the “dry county” followers out here.
4) I’ve been inspired to create some cleaning products and other household items with my essential oils!
In an ideal world, I would create my own shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, kitchen cleaner, etc., but there’s never enough time in the day. So, I decided I would swap one item a month. Instead of buying all-purpose cleaner this month, I am going to create my own. And, next month, I’ll make my own shampoo or body scrub. Slowly but surely, we’ll have non-toxic cleaners for our home and our bodies! (Ironic that I’m making all these non-toxic products while feeding my body toxins in the form of soda. Ugh.)
5) I have had this shoe rack (or, rather, pieces of the shoe rack) laying on our living room floor since my parents visited back in early September.
After nearly tripping over it five times, I figured I would attempt to put the thing together. This was ordered from Walmart so the instructions were a little more challenging than the IKEA furniture that I’m used to. But, with the help of three podcasts (yes, I’m slow), a toxic Diet Coke, and some cheese puffs to snack on, I completed the task! (We won’t talk about the fact that I ended up with some extra pieces that were probably supposed to be used….)
6) Ankur and I finally found a place in Harrogate worth eating at.
It’s a random food truck across from his campus. We were hopeful for some better tasting Mexican food than the restaurants here offer. And we lucked out! This place is pretty good. This might be our new Thursday night tradition.
7) Bhabhi sent me this cookbook in the mail and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time!
I changed up my Weight Watchers membership last week in an effort to save a little $$. I was paying for a meetings-membership (where you have access to the in-person meetings), but changed it to the online-only membership (where you only have access to the e-tools). I did this because I was only going in on Mondays to weigh in. I didn’t stick around for the meetings because I didn’t find them particularly helpful. The WW leader just read through the pamphlet, which seems silly because I can do that on my own time. Since there’s not another meeting to attend in the area, I figured I would save the money and switch to online for now. Thank you, Bhabhi, for knowing that I’m going to need all the cooking inspiration I can get!
Questions of the Day:
- What are you dressing up as for Halloween?
- Do you make your own cleaning products?
- Where do you find your recipes? A cookbook? Pinterest?
- Share a fun fact about yourself!

I loved reading this. You made me laugh a lot and I needed that today. I don’t make my own cleaning products but I’m interested in essential oils. I’m doing some research about that at the moment because I want to write a blog post about how they can be used for energy/relaxation etc. Do you have any blog posts I could read about this please? Thanks!

Great reads for Friday! I’m a little envious of your Taco Truck there! We have no trucks of any kind here in small town rural North Georgia. Enjoy!! 🙂

Love your facts! ha… I use to live on Subway too! My youngest was in the NICU after being born and since I would go everyday and Subway was right next to the hospital I would go in there and have dinner while the doctors and nurses changed shifts and then go back to my baby girl! Now every time I see one I smile and think of how far my girl has come (she’s 3 now) and I’m with you on Halloween but my kids love it so I have to endure it but the giggles and memories I get from seeing them happy out weighs the rest of yucky Halloween ha

Your facts are so fun to read! I want that cookbook. I am a huge SkinnyTaste fan 🙂

When did this Subway craze hit you?
Do you want to make me any products, while you’re at it? Just saying. lol. I make none of my own but typically use vinegar and water.
Food trucks are the bee’s knees, aren’t they? They may never look too appealing but dammit the food that they produce is usually out of this world.
Thanks for the fun read, girl. 🙂

What a fun post!
To answer your questions:
I usually don’t dress up for Halloween, but my kids do. I still have no idea what they’re gonna be dressed up as though:)
I make my own bathroom cleaner by mixing equal parts of dish soap with vinegar. Best cleaner ever. And cheap, too.
Pinterest is my go to place for recipes. Or my head.
Fun fact: every year I tell myself I am going to decorate outside for Halloween, then I wait for sales, then the spirit is gone and the story repeats the next year…

Such a funny post – had a good laugh 🙂 I would love to learn to make my own cleaning products with essential oils! You should do a post on how you ended up making them!

Love this list! That cookbook looks divine. How are you liking essential oils? I haven’t tried making cleaning products myself yet, but I use essential oils in my massage therapy practice.
Katie says
I am getting more and more into essential oils myself and really cleaning up my household products and cleaners. What kind of oils do you use?

I dislike anything scary as well! If I watch something scary I usually have a very realistic dream about it and then can’t sleep. I’ve always been that way. I really enjoy candy during Halloween too! I have to exercise a LOT of self control otherwise I think I would gain 30 pounds haha

This is a great post to end the week with! And here I was thinking that I am the only person in the world who mixes “REAL” Coke with “Diet”… only, I think mine is more of a 50/50 blend! Happy Weekend xo

I so love the labels and I wanna hear about that book when you finish reading it. Please.

I can’t even fathom how someone can’t like Halloween 😂 Even if you don’t like scary stuff, you can still watch Charlie Brown or Casper or other cute movies! Plus there’s so much fun food you can only get around this time of year.
To answer your first question of the day, I’m probably gonna go as Harley Quinn like I did last year because it’s the only costume that fits anymore and I can’t afford to get a new one. 😣

Oooh I need that cookbook in my life!! Looks amazing. And that tank top is awesome- me to a T haha!

I’m not dressing up for Halloween. I don’t celebrate it and I hate the whole scary theme of it. I’m glad your digital Subway card work this time.
Nellwyn says
I also don’t like costumes or scary stuff so I don’t think I’ll be doing anything for Halloween this year. I might go over to my parents house to see my little sister in her costume and hand out some candy but I don’t think I’ll get my act together in time to dress up.

I love random facts! I’m not sure if we are dressing up for Halloween! I’m not even sure if our apartment complex does trick or treating! If we do dress up I’ll probably just put on a pair of black leggings with my football jersey, but I’m not sure what my husband will do! Haha!
heidi says
You love the delish junk huh? lol I don’t think we are doing Halloween this year but usually we get dressed up and find a parade or something to go to. Last year we were zombies and it’s always homemade costumes and I’m pushing 50 so it never dies for me.

Definitely some fun facts. Your coke ratio situation is indeed interesting. I’m trying very hard to break my soda habit right now as well.
I also want to start making my own products, but like you I can never find the time. I like this approach to trying to make one product per month. I think I’ll give that a try as well.

Mixing pop like that makes sense to me! I do that with coffee too – half decaf if it’s after 3pm 🙂

I’m so glad to hear you are getting into the essential oil and natural house cleaning routine. Honestly, these have worked better than most store bought products I’ve purchased. That Halloween Tank is awesome, I need it NOW.
I’m going to be Wonder Woman for Halloween (Superhero Themed Party, my boys are Thor, Hulk and Spiderman)
Fun Fact, I’m an artist and professional painter.

We really do not celebrate Halloween just giveaway candy to the kids. I guess getting subway gift cards is a good thing when wanting to grand a quick bite.

Ooh, I have been meaning to start making our own beauty products with essential oils too, and haven’t done it yet. I make cleaning products, but I would love to do more. Are you sharing how you make yours?
Crystal says
I used to mix my soda too. I like the sugar, to be honest. But it’s hard to explain it to someone in a drive thru.
ninaframbuesa says
I love the idea to make your own household items. I recently purchased soap nuts for the first time, and I think I will be using some essential oils with them to add a nice scent to my clothes. 🙂
Michele says
I don’t dress up for Halloween anymore-none of us have Halloween parties anymore. I do however buy candy in case any kiddos show up at my door–which they don’t so I get to eat it all by myself. I may be the only person that actually ended up gaining weight from Weight Watchers! And I agree–those meetings did not help in the least!
