Back in August, at the beginning of the school year, I lost my Fitbit.
Fitbit #3.
The first week of the school year is a stressful time. It’s hard to think about much else other than the first week of school. So, when that happened, I just told myself: “OK. It’s a sign from the universe. You don’t need a Fitbit to hold you accountable to keep up with your workouts.”
Which is true.
I’ve been good about going to the gym and we’ve been consistent about our Monday evening yoga classes. The Fitbit was just another tech device that I didn’t need.
But, before our Monday evening yoga class, Jen and I picked goddess cards. I didn’t really have a targeted intention so I simply asked the goddesses, “What do I need to know for this week?”
This is not the first time Cordelia has popped up over the past few weeks. It got me thinking about how that silly tech device did so much more than helping me reach a 10,000 step goal.
I wanted to be the best. I wanted to be #1 in ALL the Fitbit challenges. And, in order to do that, I was forced off the couch and out the door. I would find all opportunities to move my body and get going.
In my attempt to get all the steps, I walked everywhere. I walked to downtown Campbell to get my coffee. I walked around the neighborhood and watched the sky change colors as the sun was setting. I walked around the park and watched how families played together before dinner time.
I realized this week that my Fitbit gave me more than just fake trophies for being #1. It gave me more than just the satisfaction of reaching 10,000 steps.
My Fitbit gave me a daily reminder to go outside.
And, by doing so, it gave me the time to be mindful and reflective about my day.
Something I’ve really been missing out on these past few months.
So, last night, I went online and bought myself Fitbit #4.
I’m pretty sure it’ll be worth it.
Questions of the Day:
- Do you use a Fitbit or another tech device to hold you accountable?

I adore this and completely agree. I constantly tell friends out getting a fit bit force back in the day 🙂 made me a better mother. The motivation of the steps would extinguish any irritation with the child 🙂 if she forgot something at school or upstairs. I saw everything through the lens of a gift of steps 🙂
