Finding My Calm

I know I didn’t make any resolutions this year, but one thing that I have been trying to focus on in general is finding my calm. I often joke about being scattered – both mentally and physically. I laugh that, at any given moment, there are 500 things running through my brain. And I often poke fun at myself for leaving my things all over the place at work. (Seriously – I find random things of mine around school in many different classrooms).

I think I’ll always be a little scatterbrained. It’s in my nature. But I also want to make sure that it’s not affecting my kiddos in any way. I know that when my kids feel anxious or are exhibiting severe behaviors, it’s not really in anyone’s best interest to deal with it as a hyper, panicked, scattered adult. Our kids mimic our actions and behavior – whether we want them to or not.

Since Nitasha got me this journal, I’ve been carving out a few minutes every morning to write in it. I set my intention for the day and spend some time thinking about the tasks I need to prioritize.

At the end of every day, I spend a few minutes on a short reflection. Not necessarily focusing on what went wrong. Rather, I think about the habits I want to adopt and the value I added to my day.

These few minutes of my day have helped me approach challenging situations a little more calmly with a little more presence.

That being said, I’m off to write in my journal for a few minutes before heading off to work.

Have a good one!

  1. Hi Divya, My word for 2016 is contentment. I have been practicing meditation and mindfulness and this has made me less reactive in emotional situations…..most of the time lol. I also journal…I write down 3 things each night that I’ve done that day, that I’m grateful for. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
