I’m currently playing a game called, “Can I enjoy this cup of coffee before my children wake up?” I think a lot of people probably play this game. My version is modified. So I renamed it to, “Can I enjoy this cup of coffee before my children wake up (again)?”
Because, “to wake up” sounds like it’s the first time their little beautiful eyes pop open and experience the morning.
But, in this house, “to wake up” means “to wake up once more, but THIS TIME, it’s past 6am.”
Phew.
We are tired.
The baby is teething.
The four-year old is pooping.
The grown-ups are T-I-R-E-D.
Some day we will sleep again. Not any time soon, but some day.
I hope my brain hasn’t short-circuited by that point.
Okay, anyway, this is getting long-winded and dramatic, so let’s move right along.
Last night, we had our Streeterville Mamas book club at D4.
We were appropriately seated in the ‘library’ and it was so cozy and warm, especially after coming in from the rain. We discussed None of This is True by Lisa Jewell and, for next month, we picked Firekeeper’s Daughter.
I remember talking to my best friend a few years ago when I was feeling a little lonely in this city. I remember saying something like, “I think I prefer reading to socializing at this point.”
And her advice was, FIND A BOOK CLUB.
And, well, I think that was excellent advice. Because, yes, it’s fun to have a mom crew. But it’s also so fun to talk about all things books.
Since that conversation, I’ve joined a few different book clubs. I obviously can’t attend all the meetings because, life. But it’s fun to now have community in different spaces. And do things that *I* like to do – separate from mommying.
Okay, going to go get the kiddos ready for the day! Taking Ishu bowling tonight with some of his friends!
Have a happy hump day. (Or, if you’re like Ishu, ‘happy dromedary camel day’).
