Yesterday was LONG. And, typically, I brace myself for Mondays. So I’m already coming in with low expectations. But, it just felt longer and more drawn out than a typical Monday.
For starters, I spent 90% of my day reading test questions to kids who get accommodations for their benchmark assessment. I’m really grateful that my kiddos are getting accommodations. But, 1) I don’t particularly love this assessment and 2) It’s really monotonous to sit in a room reading test questions and answer choices. At one point, one of my students looked up at me and said, “Ms. B? Do you need a break?”
Oops.
ADDITIONALLY, on my way out of work yesterday, I noticed that there WAS A SPIDER IN MY CAR. Am I some sort of spider whisperer?! Why is my life full of them lately? That is disgusting. And it wasn’t one of those thin, long-legged spiders. It was THICK. Like it was going to COME AT ME and bite my face off. So, naturally, I swerved to the side of the road and frantically swatted at the seat of my car.
But I couldn’t find it. Which meant I had to get on the freeway KNOWING there was a spider in my car that was going to come up from behind me and attack me. Don’t worry, friends. I’m alive. I drove my butt straight to a car wash. Paid for the vacuuming of carpets and everything.
Anyway, moral of the story. Mondays suck.
Which is why I am so grateful that, on this particular Monday evening, we had our February Women’s Circle at my apartment.
The theme was Flashback February. So, people came dressed up in pigtails and pajamas. And came armed with some delicious sugar-y goodness like Gushers and homemade Rice Krispy treats made with Kix cereal.
But, obviously, my favorite portion of the evening was sitting down and checking in with one another – especially since I haven’t seen most of these ladies since last month. I just love the ability to speak and process out the mumbo-jumbo in my mind with a group of supportive women. But, even better is getting to listen to everyone talk about their own mumbo-jumbo because you just stop and realize that everyone’s going through their own rollercoaster. Everyone’s got ups and downs. But we make it out OK. And it’s just a nice little reminder that life’s really not that terrible. Even on Mondays.
