Good morning from this quiet apartment. It’s always a whirlwind in the mornings, but I haven’t been doing drop-off. So the minute the Tazmanian devil leaves with his papa, I get to finish breakfast and blogging in peace.
This morning, he was riding his new fire truck around the house (thank you, Auntie Jenn, for the inspiration!) and blasting the Toy Story tonie.
We had a great weekend, made special by the fact that we got to celebrate Ishu’s incredible papa.
Ankur had to work on Saturday so Ishu and I were on our own. We had swim lessons in the morning. And then we hung out at home for the rest of the day, watching Tangled for the umpteenth time.
On Sunday, we went out for a Fathers Day brunch at LUX BAR. Ishu was all too excited to be matching his papa. He was even more excited toting around the gift for Ankur, “trying not to drag it on the floor like Rapunzel’s hair.”
We sat on the patio for breakfast and the weather was pretty darn amazing. After being inside for most of the past two weeks, it felt nice to be out and enjoying the sunshine.
After brunch, we went to a nearby park. Ishu loved checking out a new-to-us park and enjoyed goofing around with all the other kids there, also celebrating Fathers Day with their papas.
At one point, there was an older kid sitting next to Ishu on the swing and he seemed to be really into her (and the fact that she could do all these cool tricks like standing on a swing). She asked me, “Does he talk?” To which Ishu responded, “Yes, I TALK!”
A few minutes later, she said something and Ishu repeated it.
“Hey, stop copying me!” she said.
I held my breath for a second to see how he’d respond.
“But I’m a copycat,” he said and then smiled.
I love this child of mine.
After the park, we went home for nap time. Ankur and I watched a few episodes of Ted Lasso while Ishu slept. And then when he was up, we walked over to the movie theatre to watch Elemental. It was Ishu’s first in-theater experience. (We went to the rooftop cinema a couple weekends ago, but this was the first time we’d taken him to the actual movie theater).
Next time we do that, I’ll probably try to skip the previews. They were loud and overstimulating and lasted for over 45 minutes! By the end of the previews, he had his hands over his ears and seemed over it all.
Fortunately, he enjoyed the movie and didn’t start getting completely restless ’til the end.
I loved the movie a lot too. Disney is really stepping it up in all the ways. I’m sure it was the work of many first and second-generation immigrants. All these new movies are giving me all the feels. They resonate so deeply with my own experience as a second generation immigrant.
And that’s it!
Yesterday felt extra special because we had an extra special guy to celebrate. We’re the luckiest to call him ours.
Hope you had a great weekend!
