It’s no secret that Encanto is the occasional babysitter in this household.
The problem is that, while it provides entertainment, it doesn’t provide supervision. And when Ishu watches Encanto, you’re gonna need someone to sit by him to ensure he doesn’t hurt himself when he dances. And, by dance, I mean run around in circles and then stare at the ground saying, “Caw-pit moo-ing (Carpet moving).”
Yes, we speak from experience.
Another problem is that when you are using Encanto as entertainment + you are required to sit next to him to supervise, you forget that you’re supposed to be working. And, instead of writing a report, you are bopping along to all the tunes right next to your toddler.
This is not a good approach.
Yet I keep doing it.
Whatever.
Anyway, here are some fun things my toddler screams out while watching this movie.
Which, by the way, he requests now by saying “MEE-YA-CLE TEE-BEE (Miracle TV).” He’s figured out that if he just says “mee-ya-cle,” Mama’s just gonna turn on the soundtrack. But if he asks for “mee-ya-cle tee-bee,” Mom’s gonna give in and turn on the movie.
Okay. So.
Anytime “Casita’ starts getting cracks in it, Ishu gasps and says, “OH NOOOOOOOOO, -OUSE BO-KEH (Oh no, house broken!”).
His absolute favorite part of the whole movie is when Antonio walks into his room for the first time and the leopard scoops him up from behind and goes running with him on its back. Ishu screams, “THEEEEEE-TA!!! THEE-TA NUNNING! (Cheetah! Cheetah running!)” Yes I know it’s a leopard. No, I cannot correct him. I missed my shot.
(In the same way I cannot correct him about the cricket in Giraffes Can’t Dance. It will always be a grasshopper to him. Let it be known that I do not know my animals very well).
And any time he sees the rats scurrying around, he points and said “MICKEY MOUTH.”
So there you have it.
Encanto from the perspective of a toddler.
Isn’t it simply thrilling?
