Good morning!
Thank you so much to those of you who left comments and love and encouragement on yesterday’s post. As a teacher (and still a fairly new one at that), there have been numerous moments throughout my career that I’ve questioned decisions I’ve made or conversations I’ve had. I think it’s just normal human behavior to end the day and think, “Did I say the right thing? Did I make the right choice?”
But then there are a few moments here and there that remind me that I’m not completely screwing things up.
Like yesterday for example.
When the same kid who made the “Miss Brownie” comment came into my class yesterday. (He’s not one of my kiddos but all the students who take the late bus come into my room at the end of the day so we can take attendance and walk over to the gym).
I was standing at my desk trying to shut my computer down for the day. From the corner of my eye, I saw him walk in and sit down at one of the desks facing me.
So, I look up and, with a huge smile on my face, I asked him how his day was.
He didn’t answer right away.
He continued to look at me for a minute and then very slowly and quietly said, “Hi Miss. I forgot your name. I know it starts with a D.”
And, in that very moment, I had so much love for this child. He made a mistake. He recognized that it had upset me. And he attempted to fix it.
What more could you ask for as a teacher?

Why?!?!? Is there something about KIDS that you want to TELL ME?! (or…in blunt terms…IS THERE A BABY ON THE WAY?!)

An error doesn’t become a mistake until you refuse to correct it…..This kid sure learned from you my dear friend. Making a difference one kid at a time.

Well done for handling this in such a way that a child learned something. It couldn’t have been easy for you in the moment but you really did teach a life lesson.
